Some important tax info we just received:
As I was taking my 2026 tax refresher course, I learned the following:
For the 2026 tax year, charitable deduction rules have changed significantly under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), impacting both people who take the standard deduction and those who itemize.
For Non-Itemizers (Standard Deduction) 57% of the population.
Cash Deduction: An above-the-line deduction is available up to $1,000 for single filers or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly, applying strictly to cash gifts to qualified 501(c)(3) public charities. Non-cash property, private foundations, and DAFs are excluded.
This is great news for non profits that we really need to educate and promote!
Donors can deduct $1,000(single) or $2,000(married) charitable contributions to nonprofits and it directly reduces their 2026 taxable income. For people in the 22% tax bracket that could be a $220 savings.
I was so excited to hear this that I had to share. You may already have known this, but I think it is worth sharing with everyone.

I am trying to tell all my favorite nonprofits!
