Bergen County Horse Rescue's Mission is Caring for Horses Mind, Body & Soul, and our focus is rescuing and rehabilitating horses in need. Our beautiful 17-acre facility provides a safe and healthy environment for our rescues to live and interact in a herd community. We provide reconditioning and behavioral training for horses who are fit and healthy in order to place them in a forever home where t

hey can be loved and cared for. For horses that are no longer capable of working due to a disability or old age, our facility provides a tranquil and safe sanctuary. All horses not adopted out will always have a loving home at Bergen County Horse Rescue. Our vision is to generate awareness within our community about equine care as well as act as an environmentally conscious resource for educational tours for groups and organizations. Bergen County Horse Rescue has been recognized as an EQUUS Foundation 2020 and 2021 Guardian. The purpose of the Guardians program is to encourage equine organizations to be transparent and accountable to the public through the disclosure of their equine care and use practices and to reward equine organizations that are operating at the highest standards for horse care and use. The EQUUS Foundation is the only national animal welfare in the United States 100% dedicated to protecting America's horses and strengthening the bond between horses and people. At the core of our mission is safeguarding the comfort and dignity of America's horses throughout their lives and sharing their ability to empower, teach and heal with as many people as possible. Like BCHR, Equus is committed to ensuring that horses are safe, protected and treated with dignity.

In addition to the horse being NJ’s official state animal, June 2026 has officially been recognized in New Jersey as the Month of the Horse, and we are so grateful to see horses receive the recognition they deserve. 🐴❤️

Horses impact so many lives through companionship, therapy, sport, education, agriculture, and rescue, and we appreciate New Jersey taking the time to celebrate these incredible animals throughout the month of June.

While we are excited for this recognition, our commitment to horses goes far beyond one month. At BCHR, we care for our horses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year- through every season, every storm, every early morning, and every late night. Their care never stops, and neither does our dedication to them.

If you would like to support our mission, there are so many meaningful ways to help:
- Attend our events
- Donate
- Share our social media posts
- Purchase items from our Amazon Wish List
- Book a farm tour
- Schedule a grooming session
- Sponsor a horse
- Volunteer your time

Every share, donation, visit, and helping hand makes a direct difference for the horses in our care, and we truly appreciate the continued support from our community.

Here’s to celebrating horses not just this month- but all year long. 🐎🤍

Remembering the Fallen Equine Heroes

On Memorial Day, we remember and mourn all the military personnel who have died while serving the United States. In that spirit, we at BCHR also remember the millions of horses, mules and donkeys that died during military service from the Civil War through World War II. In World War II alone, historians believe that between 3-5 million horses died.

These unsung heroes displayed resilience and bravery while providing vital services including transporting the wounded; carrying supplies, machinery and equipment, often under bombardment; boosting morale and offering comfort to soldiers; and acting as mounts for scouting and patrolling. They were also victims of poison gas, artillery fire, grueling environments, disease, exhaustion, and starvation.

We honor all who served, human, equine, and even canine.

We made it through the first heat wave of 2026!

Our top priority is always our horses and making sure they are comfortable. Especially in the heat.

At BCHR, we’re always ready to navigate the seasons and the hurdles they can bring.
