With the 4th of July holiday quickly approaching, remember your pets really don't want to go and watch the fireworks displays. The noise can cause anxiety in your dogs. They may run away. to get as far away from the noise as possible. Make sure your dog is identified with a address tag, rabies tag or microchip.
If you have fireworks going off in your neighbor hood, give your dog someplace safe and quite to avoid the noise of fireworks... in a basement, a closed bedroom or somewhere your dog will feel safe from the noise and bright flashes of light.
There are also medications that can be given to your pet to help calm them down in the times of anxiety, such as fireworks and thunderstorms. A new noise anxiety medication is available. If you would like more information send me a message.

Valentines Day is tomorrow, make it a safe day for your pets and keep the chocolate out of reach. A small amount of the fancy chocolate can be extremely dangerous for small dogs. Don't let your fun day end in a trip to an Emergency clinic.

Great conference, heading back to Iowa today. We will be driving through the Jonas winter storm trying to avoid places like Atlanta. Hopefully we won't hit snow until we get to a state where people know how to drive in snow...oh wait that's Iowa.

The big topic right now in veterinary medicine is the current canine flu in Chicago and parts of the Mid west. This flu virus is of a strain from Asia. It is not the same Canine Influenza virus we have been seeing for the last 5years. This new flu is the H3N2 virus the older flu is the H3N8. There is a vaccine for the H3N8 virus but not the H3N2. Evidence from Cornell University , leads the experts to beleive, there maybe some cross protection of the current flu vaccine for the new strain. If you are planning to board you dog or use a groomer you may want to have your dog vaccinated with the current CIV vaccine.

Condolences to my sister Marsha, we said goodbye to her 18 yr old cat Pooie today. Marsha took Pooie home, after we lost our mom 9 years ago. It was difficult to say goodbye.

Just added new aspect to Pets At Home Vet House Calls ... chicken OB-GYN . Helped Dora Lee the Roade Island Red pass her 126th egg. We rushed to her aid this afternoon after 24 hrs of being egg nound.
