Did you know... one person once walked 38 dogs at the same time?
No, this isn't the beginning of a joke.
It's a Guinness World Record. 😂
On September 5, 2024, Canadian dog lover Mitchell Rudy took 38 dogs for a walk... simultaneously.
All 38 dogs.
One human.
One kilometer.
Thirty-eight leashes.
I'm going to let that sink in for a minute. 😂
The record-breaking walk took place in Goesan, South Korea, and was organized with Canadian charitable initiative BONK and Korean K9 Rescue (KK9R).
But here's the part that makes this more than just a wonderfully ridiculous world record:
Every single dog on that walk had been rescued locally.
Many had come from the puppy mill industry or areas associated with the dog meat trade, and all were looking for homes.
The idea behind the record was to shine a spotlight on these dogs and help change perceptions about rescue dogs.
As Mitchell put it, the goal was to show people that these are good dogs and they deserve homes.
And there was another important piece of history happening at the same time.
In January 2024, South Korea passed legislation banning the breeding, slaughter, distribution and sale of dogs for human consumption. The law's transition period ends in February 2027, when the ban takes full effect.
So, somewhere in South Korea in 2024...
38 rescued dogs went for a walk.
And for a little while, they weren't former puppy-mill dogs.
They weren't dogs rescued from the meat trade.
They weren't dogs waiting for someone to give them a chance.
They were simply...
38 good dogs going for a walk. 🐾❤️
And honestly, I can't think of a better reason to break a world record.
