In honor of National Rehabilitation Week, we wanted to reshare the story of a very special patient — K9 Iro of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office (pictured here with handler Deputy Blaine Evans and Dr. Courtney Arnoldy, who leads our specialized physical rehabilitation service.)

In 2023, Iro was shot in the line of duty. After receiving live-saving care, Iro began several months of physical rehabilitation at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Thanks to his rehab work, he completed his re-certification and was cleared to get back to the job he loves. We still see Iro around UWVC and look forward to his visits! We all want the best for our pets. That’s why familiarizing oneself with pet first aid basics is crucial in keeping our furry friends safe.

Join the UW Veterinary Care Client Learning and Lending Center on Sunday, August 30, from 10am-12pm, to learn how to provide basic first aid to your pet. Participants will not only learn how to assess and treat various medical pet emergencies, but will also build a first aid kit to take home with them.
