We grow them spicy here 🌶️

Of course there’s a tomato horn worm in our nightshade tunnel. Not a surprise. Just a bit of a surprise seeing this guy chasing down on a jalapeño instead of a tomato plant (which is just 2’ away). Tried feeding it to the chickens last night and they weren’t interested at first, but this morning it was gone! There might be a spicy egg in the mix this week! 😉🤣

Farm visits by 2nd grade yesterday morning followed by 1st grade in the afternoon. More okra painting. More chicken time. More mud kitchen creations. More Maypop hunting. More wood chip climbing. More bug collecting 🐛. More exploration.

It may be hot outside, but kids love to play. And in play there is learning.

What a difference a week makes! The farm and gardening class direct seeded carrots, beets, lettuce mix, radishes, & arugula last Wednesday and already the radishes, arugula, and beets have germinated. Because the carrots have not yet germinated, it’s perfect timing to do some flame weeding on these beds. 🔥🙌 For those of you who are not familiar with growing carrots, they take 14 days to germinate (sprout), which means that weeds get a jump on them and can very quickly choke them out. Flame weeding helps with this. Let’s see how they progress, because we all really want some carrots! Only 48 days to go until carrots 🥕 are ready 🤣🤦‍♀️

As you can see, arugula and radishes are the golden retrievers of the germination world, doing a great job germinating and growing so we quickly see progress! 🤣

Goal for week 1: re-establish farm rules and expected conduct. Each class that visited this week put that into practice during their time on the farm. While exploring the farm they braved the heat, built with magnet tiles, played in the mud kitchen, read, and painted with okra, plus they did a bit of maypop hunting. They also spent time with our lovely hens (no pictures of that one, unfortunately!). Learning how to engage with the chickens is such a big part of this — we want our kiddos to be both responsible and safe around animals we can’t fully control.

Yes, they did get dirty… This is GOOD. SO GOOD.

☀️Weekly’s too much produce, do you do half shares?
🥬 currently we don’t, but we love it when people find friends to split or share their CSA. Since it’s an even 10 weeks, you can go halvsies with a friend.
☀️Where do we pick up?
🥬 Farm on Thursday afternoons OR East Nashville Farmers Market on Tuesday afternoons. You choose at checkout on our website.

Farm Crew 2026

What a start to the summer. ☀️ This crew is something special — hardworking, motivated, and full of good energy. With half the team being new to the farm, they’ve come together better than we could have asked for.

The worst of the summer heat is still ahead, but they’ve already pushed through some tough days — boots full of water, intense heat, and everything in between. Through it all, laughter, jokes, and good chatter filled the air.

That’s exactly how it should be. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings. 🌻
