Another month is upon us and the weather is really starting to heat up. Here to help you “chill out” is our June Camper of the Month, Tobi! This cool vizsla dude has been with his humans since he was just 3 months old. His family had been bringing their GSP, Nico, to Camp K9 for years and wanted Tobi to enjoy the large open facility with his older brother. Sweet Nico passed in 2021 but Tobi has continued to visit his dog friends at daycamp on a weekly basis.
At home, Tobi seems fairly certain he is in fact a human. He listens very carefully to when his family is talking and when he hears key words like “treat” or “walk” his ears perk up and he gets excited! He even sleeps like a human: head on the pillow, body under the covers, spooning whoever is closest to him. Tobi also acts as a nanny to his human brother, Thomas. Every night when Thomas goes to bed, Tobi goes to bed with him. As soon as Thomas falls asleep, Tobi sneaks off and jumps into his mom and dad’s bed…. Though to Tobi, it’s probably HIS king size bed! When he’s not napping or ushering his human brother to sleep, Tobi loves hunting, bird watching and chasing bunnies around the back yard.
On Camp days, Tobi starts his day with a quick breakfast then checks out the perimeter (backyard) in stealth mode. It’s almost as if he wants to make sure all the bunnies are aware he is around before he leaves for the day! On the car ride, Tobi usually sits just as a human would: In the passenger seat, sitting upright and looking out the window. When he recognizes they are close, his tail begins to wag and he gets excited as they arrive at the parking lot. Tobi makes sure to check all the “pee-mail” outside before entering the lobby; then he has to sniff all the leash pockets, the treat table, the hallway and front desk because you never know what treats may be found! After he has expertly sniffed out the whole area, Tobi makes his way down to the yards.
At Camp, Tobi really enjoys hanging out with other bird dogs and hounds. He is often found patrolling with Cleo and Stella the vizsla sisters, Kimber the GSP or Wally the hound. With them, he protects the whole yard from critters and birds. In fact, if he spots a bird, EVERYONE will know because he has a very effective alert! When he’s not on patrol, Tobi enjoys getting head scratches from his Pack Leaders or rolling around on the turf. Tobi is a bit of a goofball as well. If there is a towel, sweater or lead left within his reach, he’ll take it and gladly prance around the yard showing it off. He is very good boy though and always gives it back when asked 🙂Tobi has been making our staff smile for nearly eight years. He’s honestly just a really cool guy and impossible not to like. We are always happy to see our silly and amiable friend, Tobias and are looking forward to many more hangouts with him!
