Inquiries please email [email protected] The work we do in the Comparative Genetics Laboratory leads to a better understanding of diseases that affect companion animals. We are currently working on advancing the understanding of canine cranial cruciate ligament rupture (also known as canine anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture),
canine acquired laryngeal paralysis polyneuropathy (also known as laryngeal paralysis, LarPar, or GOLP), and equine degenerative suspensory ligament desmitis (DSLD). Understanding the genetics and progression of these diseases is a critical step toward the development of a genetic screening test and ultimately new drug treatments to help prevent or slow disease development. Many diseases in animals are very similar to human diseases. Canine ACL rupture is very similar to human ACL rupture; equine DSLD is similar to degenerative ligament diseases in people; and laryngeal paralysis is similar to Charcot Marie Tooth disease in humans. Understanding these diseases in animals will lead to a better understanding of disease in people, and can help develop treatments for both. DONATE
