These are my favorite Axolotls to produce!! Unfortunately these babies are a part of a test breeding for a lethal gene. Both parents are carriers of this gene which means there were affected babies. All the affected babies were humanely euthanized. This prevents them from suffering later in life.

I need to make a point. When an Axolotl is a carrier of an unfavorable gene, it doesn't make that Axolotl an unhealthy Axolotl. In fact they can live just as long and healthy as any that are not carriers. It just means as a breeder you don't want to use this Axolotl as a breeder for breeding stock. As a reputable breeder we either retire that Axolotl from our breeding program and keep them as our pets or put them to work a little by helping us find other carriers through breeding.

All the lethal genes we know of are recessive. Which means you have to have both parents be carriers to have affected babies. There are some lethal genes that are more severe than others as well. Some of the affected babies will also vary in severity based on environmental circumstances. This is how we test breed our breeding stock here at The Mottled Lotl!

About to add some more "Blueberry Muffin" and "Lemon Meringue" babies to the site. This really was a gorgeous rainbow clutch. All Albino blends are 100% All-Het everything else is het all with the exception of Albino being 67% chance for. Mom, "Blueberry Muffin" is an All-Het MAC Leucy, meaning Melanoid, Axanthic, Copper and White (Leucy) and Dad, "Lemon Meringue" is an All-Het Hypomelanstic. Our sale will be ending in a couple weeks!! Just a heads up. After that all prices will go back to normal.

Meet "Pomegranate" he is a White Axanthic aka Axanthic Leucy we got from Strohl's Herptiles breeding collection. He is het Copper and possibly Albino. We plan on breeding him with one of our "Rose Gold" and "Khaki" girls in a few months. They will make some really beautiful babies! I just need to figure out which girl we will use. He sure is beautiful ❤️☺️.

"Smokey" is getting so big. Still not sure what gender this Hypo Mel Axanthic is. But, it's getting so big already. This one was smaller than its siblings at the beginning, now it is bigger than them!
