Even if you're working hard, training consistently, and driven to achieve your goals, don't forget to have FUN.

Enjoy your horses and the opportunities to go on adventures, appreciate the little moments, and take the pressure off. After all, what is the point if you're not having fun? Make your inner child giggle, go do the thing. Keep your heart and soul happy. It isn't supposed to be just about moving up, being serious, and never getting out of the ring.

Today, I received one of the greatest compliments I could ever hope to receive as a coach.

I was coaching riders through a flat class and helping one of my students work through some challenging moments with their horse. After the class, a parent of another rider, whose child had actually placed ahead of mine, came over to talk to me.

She told me how much she appreciated the kindness and thoughtfulness in my coaching. She said she loved the way I explained things so thoroughly and in such detail to help my rider understand what the horse needed rather than simply telling them what to do.
That compliment meant more to me than any ribbon ever could.

One of the hardest parts of teaching is finding the words to explain what can often only be felt in the saddle. Every lesson, I do my best to translate years of experience into concepts that riders can truly understand and apply. My hope is that they leave every ride not only riding better, but understanding their horse on a deeper level.

My goal has never been to create riders who depend on me. My goal is to give them the knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking skills to become exceptional horsemen and horsewomen. I *want* them to ride better than me.

Most importantly, I want to help riders keep their joy. Horses can be incredibly humbling, and progress is rarely linear. I want my students to leave each lesson feeling empowered, curious, and excited to keep learning instead of discouraged.

Moments like today remind me why I love to teach. It is never just about the ribbons. It is about helping horses and riders find joy, community, and understand one another a little better every single day. ❤️

I have a LOT of show results to catch up on🫣 Starting with yesterday's success at seacoast_show_series !

These young ladies have been working hard figuring out their horses all season, and I couldn't be more proud of their efforts👏🥳

Karina has had her first full season with Patronus Charm, a cheeky and talented Westphalen gelding! Despite a few challenging rounds in the Modified 2'3 Equitation and Hunter rings, they ended with respectful results. This partnership rode their way to a 5th and 3rd place finish in their Hunter over fences classes and 1st in the Modified Hunter Under Saddle. They also finished 2nd and 3rd in their Equitation over fences and 3rd in their Equitation Flat. Karina also rode her way to 2nd in the 2'3 Seacoast Medal, qualifying her for finals! So proud of this team and how they continue to develop!

Lydia had a fantastic time with Lorenzo in their Novice Equitation and Hunter 18" divisions. This is Lydia's first year in the 18" classes and her first year riding and competing a larger horse. She continues to learn and grow through each ride. This team finished 1st in their Novice Hunter Under Saddle class, and rode their way to being Champions of the 18" Novice Equitaion division! They finished 1st and 2nd in their Equitation Over Fences, and 6th in the flat. Lydia also rode her first ever medal class and placed 4th, qualifying them for Seacoast Medal Finals! I couldn't be happier for this team, Lydia is becoming quite the young rider!

Peyton and Forty Caliber stepped into the show ring for the first time in almost a year as well! Cal is a STRONG and talented OTTB, and Peyton rides him impressively well. Despite an unlucky 2'3 jumper round, they rode their way to victory in their 2' jumper class! Excited to continue to watch their development, hopefully with an event outing soon!

I genuinely enjoy helping my riders in and out of the saddle, as showing can be just as much of a mental challenge as well as a physical one. I am so grateful for these girls and their parents for trusting me to help them. 🥰❤️

Something I've been working through in my own riding lately...

One of the quickest ways to improve your riding, and one of the quickest ways to muddy the conversation with your horse, is through your leg.

The leg should be an aid, not constant background noise. Use it with intention, in the correct timing, then allow it to return to a quiet, passive, subtle presence. That's where clear communication happens.

When the leg constantly interrupts what your seat is trying to say, the horse receives conflicting information. Your seat may be asking one question while your leg is asking another. The result? A confused horse... And an even more frustrated rider.

"Why won't they listen to my leg?"
"Why are they leaning on me?"
"Why isn't this movement happening the way I think I'm asking for it?"

Often, it's because too many "buttons" are being pressed at once, and the horse can't distinguish which aid is the correct answer.

The moral of the story? Louder is not better. Clarity is. Get out of their way.

Yes, use your aids... But then let them go quiet again. Sometimes the most effective riding comes from doing less: allowing your seat, balance, weight, and the smallest, most refined aids to carry the conversation.

The best riders don't constantly ask louder questions. They ask clearer ones. 🐴✨

After a full week of showing, we traded the dressage ring for the cross-country course! 🙌

I was so excited to get a few of my students out schooling, and everyone came away having learned something new. It was awesome to watch both horses and riders build confidence, step outside their comfort zones, and trust each other a little more with every fence.

A massive congratulations to Peyton & Cal for confidently conquering their very first ditch together! 🎉 🥳That's a huge milestone, especially for how confident Cal became the more he was exposed to it.

Days like these are a great reminder that growth doesn't always happen inside the ring. It happens when we try something new, work through the tough moments, and celebrate every win, big or small.

So proud of this group and already looking forward to our next adventures!

Thank you Victory Gallop Eventing and The Equine Discovery Center for having such inviting and well maintained XC fields! We are CERTAINLY enjoying the facilities!

There are some dreams you don't just want. You NEED them. The kind that live in your bones. The kind you're willing to sacrifice for, fight for, and keep showing up for long after it stops being easy.

Sometimes you can do everything right. You work harder than you thought possible, pour your heart into it, stay patient, stay hopeful... and somehow the stars still don't align.

That's the hardest part. Not failing because you didn't care enough, but caring so deeply and still not being able to control the outcome.

I don't think this sport is truly measured by how nicely things come together. I think it's measured by how many times you're willing to pick yourself back up when they don't.

So for now, I'll keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep believing that even if this chapter doesn't look the way I imagined, it doesn't mean the story is over. 💙

I couldn't be more grateful for the support of my community over the past two days. We had some rough rides at the LAR Rated Dressage Shows I & II, however, each day we learned something, and each day things improved.

Thank you SO much to my power team, Abby & Alex, for being my boots on the ground. Thank you Laura for being so incredibly generous enough to lend me your truck and trailer. Thank you Dr. Hannah Daigle for keeping Teddy in top form, and of course, Jocelyn Kraenzle for helping me pick myself up and being, truly, a wonderful guide. Much to learn, much to improve, and much to reflect on. It's always tough when things that don't occur at home show up in the ring, however, any day that I have this big guy as my dance partner is a good day.

What a weekend for Team RAE! 🎉🐴

I truly couldn’t be more proud of all of my students and their horses. Every single partnership showed determination, sportsmanship, and a willingness to learn, and that’s what this sport is all about.

🥇 Alex C & Dawson’s Double Scoop topped the Pre-Elementary 2-Phase Division, ending on an outstanding dressage score of 26.9.

🥇Abby W & Dutch Blitz won the Starter 2-Phase Division, finishing on their impressive dressage score of 32.6.

🥇 Ike W & Lorenzo won the Novice 3-Phase Division, finishing on a score of 28 after an unfortunate rail in stadium.

🥈 Clemence & Patronus Charm had a uniquely challenging ride but persevered beautifully, earning a 36 in dressage and still finishing 2nd in the Novice 3-Phase Division.

As for me, I had the privilege of taking my rescue Quarter Horse gelding, All American Golden Boy, to his first-ever 3-phase and first-ever show with me. He wasn’t quite at his best, but he gave me absolutely everything he had. We started with a solid 31.5 in dressage, and despite some poor piloting on my part that led to a miscommunication and a rail at fence 5 in stadium, we finished on a 35.5 to take home the win in the Beginner Novice Division. I’m incredibly proud of this horse and excited for what’s to come! Far cry from the emaciated western creature he used to be🥰

A huge thank you to Victory Gallop Eventing at Green Acres for hosting such a welcoming, well-run, and enjoyable event! I’m also so grateful for my amazing clients, their families, friends, and everyone who pitched in throughout the day. Your encouragement and teamwork make weekends like this possible!
It truly takes a village, and I am so grateful to those who are in my corner🥰

More to come... but a MASSIVE congratulations to Ike Williams and Alex Carlson for earning the two lowest scores of the day at the Victory Gallop Schooling Show! 🎉🐴

Ike finished on a score of 28 in the Novice 3-phase Division and Alex finished on a score of 26 in the Pre-Elementary 2-phase Division.🏆

I couldn't be more proud of these two, and the rest of my crew! Huge thank you to Victory Gallop Eventing for hosting such a fun, welcoming, and well-run event. We’re already looking forward to coming back in August!

Massive congratulations to .eq and Dawson’s Double Scoop on a successful outing at the UNH Schooling Dressage Show & 2-Phase this past weekend! 🎉🐴

This is a new partnership with big goals, and we decided “why not?” for their first outing. They kept it smart and stepped into Intro A and Intro B, putting in consistent tests to earn a 66% (2nd) and a 67% (3rd).

There’s always more to improve, but I’m incredibly proud of this team and how they showed up. Such a strong start, and so much to look forward to 💙✨

Huge thank you to NHDEA and the UNH IDA team for hosting such a fun event — the perfect way to kick off the season, catch up with friends, and enjoy this amazing community!
