It’s Floppy Friday! 🐴👣

This is the second set of flip-flop pads I’ve used on this horse, and she has made drastic improvements.

After a long history of on-and-off lameness, typically stemming from crushed, overloaded heels and long toes, this setup seems to be making a significant difference.

Before this set of shoes, she was in frog-support pads with impression material. On top of everything else, she is also a chronic shoe puller—which made finding the right setup even more challenging.

Because only the front half of the hoof has a rigid shoe, these flip-flop pads allow the heels to expand and move as much as they need to without restriction. At the same time, they allow the frog to take a significant amount of load, helping to reduce the excessive loading and stress on the heels.

Another benefit is that, because the pad is so flexible, it makes it much more difficult for her to step on the shoe and pull it off.

It’s always rewarding to see a horse become more comfortable and sound when you find a setup that works for that individual horse. Sometimes, thinking outside the box—and getting a little floppy—is exactly what they need! 🤠🐴
