Update: Well, only like a month late with an update 😂. But it took Beth a grand total of 3 days to teach Kate she has to let me catch her. So they got turned back out with the herd on day 4. And the lesson stuck. Now, most days I can just walk out and catch Kate without running her into a catch pen or bringing a grain bucket.
Now, I love most things about Jack's babies, but hands down my favorite thing about them is their attitude and personality.
And its infectious. They're so friendly, so willing, and it rubs off on everyone they live with.
Kate, this sorrel without a blanket, is not a Jack baby. She's been here a week, but she's been pretty hard to catch (which is my biggest pet peeve). And a week in the barn hasn't made it better. So enlisted the help of Beth (a Jack daughter) to teach her how things work around here.
Beth got right to work. When I checked on them later that afternoon, Beth left her hay and walked up to say high, bringing Kate in tow. And it didnt take Kate long to figure out she wanted attention too.
I wouldn't be surprised if Beth has her gentled down enough to get turned out with the rest of the mares within a week.
I'm just so spoiled by how friendly Jack's babies are, but so thankful they make sure the rest of the herd is just as friendly.
