✨ Leggo My “Ego” ✨
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve noticed there seems to be a huge increase in something people carry with them these days.
Ego.
Before I get the argument of “people are just growing more confident in themselves”, let me explain.
There’s a big difference between ego and confidence.
Ego is something boastful, something that is portrayed outwardly and often comes with a power complex.
It is often fueled by a lack of confidence, ironically.
It focuses on making one feel superior about themselves, making themselves the center of everything.
Confidence is something more quiet.
It’s a trust in oneself, sometimes even a trust in others. It does not degrade. It does not bring others to their knees in feeling like they’re unworthy.
Instead, it’s a power one uses to help build up others around them.
Ego has no place in this world- it creates more problems than it helps; a root cause of so many disagreements, so many issues.
It’s a way for someone to feel good about themselves, sure, but in the same process it brings others down right along with you.
Just as ego has no place in this world in general, it certainly has no place in the world of horses.
Ego in the horse world is a massive reason so many have issues with their horses.
Horses have no ego.
They don’t understand the concept of thinking they are better than anyone, or anything, else.
They don’t rule with an iron fist to show superiority in a herd, they act with confident leadership.
When humans allow they’re egos to get in the way and try to overpower horses in an attempt to show dominance, things go south quickly and the horse is often blamed for “misbehavior” when in reality they are simply acting out of fear of how they are being treated.
In a horse’s eyes, ego can be viewed as predatory behavior- therefore they react to it as such.
If you think about it, it’s viewed that way for humans, too.
When we match a horse in a sense of confidence, establish leadership fairly, and become a safe place for our equine partners in ways they understand, we develop a partnership.
When ego stays out of actions and words, especially in the world of horses, things are so much more enjoyable for all involved.
Relationships are healthier, our everyday lives run much smoother.
Don’t allow ego to overrun your life.
Be proud, but stay humble.
Act with courage, but remember humility.
Ego is the way of dominance, confidence is the way of leadership.
