A great way to train your new puppy is by getting the older (trained) dogs to help and use the moments in your everyday life. We were about to go get in the car so I made everyone wait until I told them they could come. This is the first time I’ve ever asked Dominic to do this so we had to try a few times, but once he realized the big dogs were not coming through the gate he followed what they were doing.

Whatever happened with Vivian in her life before we got her has made her absolutely terrified of rain, storms, lightning, etc. I don’t want Dominic to be afraid so we are hanging out enjoying the first rain storm we’ve seen in a long while.

Something a little more challenging….treats in an empty bottle. Make sure you supervise with something like this so puppy doesn’t chew up or swallow any plastic pieces.

Puppy Tip: Feeding time, treats, snacks….you want to reward the behavior you like. A lot of time the puppy is super excited and we give them what they want, but then we are creating behaviors we eventually don’t like. Dominic doesn’t even know the “sit” command yet, but he sits because he knows that is what will get me to give him his dinner. From here it’s really easy to teach the command.
