Some sadness this week. Gwen who had adopted Rachel during this past summer suddenly passed away. Rachel is back at the kennel as we search for a new home. Tobey will be adopted out per a different rescue group. We were grateful that Gwen's friends and family members have chosen our rescue group as beneficiaries for persons wishing to donate. I wanted to update everyone about the most recent rescues from the Lubbock Animal Shelter. Sissy was rescued in July. It has taken her 2 months to get healthy enough for her spay and it is set for tomorrow. Sissy was tested via Embark to determine her age and she turned 5-years old on August 28th. She is a sweet Lurcher who was in a state of starvation after she was captured out loose in the Canyon Lakes area. We fully expect her to have a prey drive based on her age and background. She is affectionate and enjoys ear rubs and getting her coat combed.
Betty White is also pictured here and she was rescued in August. Betty is being treated for ehrlichia and we are seeing improvements in her overall health. Whenever we got the results of her DNA as 100% Greyhound, I thought to look for ear tattoos and she has them--I can't read them but am hoping someone with sharper vision can help me out! Betty has a very sweet and outgoing personality--we hope to find her a loving home as soon as she has her spay. If you would like to adopt or foster either of these sweet dogs, let me know. Here is a heartwarming story that we wanted to share. Gus is pictured here with his rescuer Trudi Tye Tucker. She and her husband live in the Tulia area and learned about Gus who was in a very dangerous situation in an isolated area. The property owner was not at all happy--threatening to do harm to Gus. They were able to lure him and get him to safety. Once they got him home, they fell in love with him--but one of their family dogs wasn't tolerant of their new guest. They reached out to our group and we now have Gus at the rescue kennel. He's very thin. We think Gus is about one-year old. He's a gentle and sweet Lurcher. We are so grateful for the compassion, loving care, and consideration that the Tucker family extended to this little guy. They have contributed a generous donation to help pay for his care. We will let you know how his checkup is--hopefully later this week.

We started the week off on a high point rescuing this sweet Lurcher from the shelter. They had named her Betty White--so I think we will keep that name as Betty was a huge animal rescue advocate. The photos of Betty at the time of her rescue were concerning--she was very thin and having heat stress. But, today--well, don't let her gray face fool you. She is really peppy and adorable. I will get better pics soon--but she has an unusual black brindle coat. Stay tuned as we learn more about this sassy, sweet, and resilient Greyhound!

I wanted to send an update about "The Boys' Club" at our rescue kennel. These three handsome Lurchers are making GREYT progress. All three of them have faced challenges.

Chip has been with us since April and has just completed his heartworm treatment. Chip is probably 7-8 years old. We are basing this on the DNA results showing that his sister is Phoebe. As soon as his bloodwork is reassuring--he will get his neuter. Chip is a "chipper" little fella. He's about 60 pounds and enjoys leash walks or just lounging in the air conditioned crate.

Tony was rescued from the Amarillo shelter in April. He has also just completed his heartworm treatment. We are hoping to get him seen at the ABQ Eye Clinic for dogs sometime during September to figure out why his vision is failing. That said, he has spotted me from at least 50 yards away when he was on a walk and he runs like the wind in our turn-out yard. He loves to get his ears rubbed!

Sean is finally overcoming his fearfulness and just this week decided to go out to the turnout yard. He moved to Lubbock during March and would never venture past the back part of the kennel. That said, he seemed to have some fun, was playful, and managed to strike a pose for the camera-quite handsome, Sean is quickly catching on to leash walks. He is funny and goofy! He has not had his neuter--but we think that will happen pretty soon. You may remember his sassy sister Zoe just moved cross-country and by all reports is having a blast!

It’s official! Timothy Michael Kamerer and Catherine have adopted Zoe. Let the fun begin!
