✨ Welcome Dr. Stephanie Ledesma! ✨

For Dr. Stephanie Ledesma, returning to Live Oak Animal Hospital as a veterinarian feels like coming full circle. Originally from El Paso, she moved to Lubbock in 2013 to attend Texas Tech University and has proudly called West Texas home ever since. Over the years, she earned her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas Tech University. Needless to say, she proudly bleeds red and black. ❤️🖤

Many of our clients may already recognize Dr. Ledesma. Before veterinary school, she spent seven years as a veterinary technician at both Live Oak Main and Live Oak South, where she developed a passion for caring for pets and supporting the families who love them.

As a bilingual veterinarian fluent in both English and Spanish, she believes some of the best veterinary care begins with trust, communication, and helping families feel confident in their pets’ care.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Ledesma enjoys running, hiking, tackling home renovation projects, and spending time with her husband, AJ, and their dog, Sophie.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Ledesma home to the Live Oak family! ❤️🐾

✨ Welcome Dr. Shayne Butler! ✨

Some dreams start early—and for Dr. Shayne Butler, becoming a veterinarian has been a lifelong calling. One of our favorite photos of her is from childhood, dressed as a veterinarian years before she would make that dream a reality. ♥️

Many of our clients may already recognize Dr. Butler. Before veterinary school, she spent three years as a technician here at Live Oak and even returned during summers and school breaks because this clinic has always felt like home.

Those who know Dr. Butler know that her intelligence and medical skills are only matched by her kindness. She has one of the biggest hearts of anyone we’ve ever met, and her compassion for both animals and people shines through in everything she does. We are incredibly fortunate to welcome her back—not only as a veterinarian, but as someone who has been part of the Live Oak family for years.

When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Butler and her fiancé shares their home with three dogs and three cats. Fun fact: despite having six pets, there are only 21 legs in the house, as three of her beloved pets are missing a limb. 🐾

We couldn’t be more excited to have Dr. Butler (who is also feline friendly certified!) return to Live Oak and serve the pets and families of West Texas. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming our newest doctor—we know she is going to make an incredible impact on our community.

🪰 What Should Pet Owners Know About the New World Screwworm?

The New World screwworm is a parasitic fly whose larvae (maggots) can infest and feed on the living tissue of warm-blooded animals, including pets, livestock, wildlife, and, in rare cases, humans. These larvae typically enter through open wounds or areas of damaged skin and can cause serious tissue damage if left untreated.

While proper wound care and regular monitoring are essential, flea and tick preventives such as Bravecto® and Simparica® have demonstrated activity against New World screwworm larvae and may help reduce the risk of infestation in dogs.

We encourage pet owners to routinely check their pets for wounds, skin irritation, swelling, unusual discharge, or other signs of infection. If you notice any concerns, contact your veterinarian promptly. Early detection and treatment are critical to achieving the best outcome.

If you have recently traveled to South Texas or Mexico and have concerns about your pet's exposure, we are here to help. Feel free to schedule an examination with one of our veterinarians or give us a call at (806) 794-9000.
