We collect donations to help fund a Blue Throated Macaw nest. We've been lucky to have raised a few of these amazing Macaws! Every new chick is a blessing!

Meet the chicks! 💙🦜 Our dedicated affiliates at Fundación CLB have recorded their most successful Blue-throated Macaw breeding season yet, with 17 chicks across 8 active nests in Bolivia’s Gran Mojos region!

For the Critically Endangered Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis), every chick is precious. Habitat loss and fires have reduced the natural nesting sites available, making the team's efforts to provide and protect suitable nests especially important.

Across Bolivia’s remote, seasonally flooded savannas, Fundación CLB monitors over 100 artificial nest boxes, protects nests from predators and checks on developing chicks. It's demanding work, particularly when flooding makes nests difficult to reach.

The aim is to help as many chicks as possible survive and fledge, with wild parents raising their young naturally and the team intervening only when necessary.

One chick needed some extra help this season! After discovering a cracked egg, the team used skills gained through international knowledge exchanges to successfully incubate and hatch it. Following a week of specialist care, the chick was placed with wild foster parents, who raised it until it successfully fledged!

This record-breaking season for Fundación CLB reflects years of dedicated conservation work, and we're incredibly proud to support the team as they help give these rare macaws a stronger future in the wild. 💚

A special thank you to (Gran Mojos Municipal Protected Area) for their valuable collaboration in protecting Blue-throated Macaws and their habitat.

325 kākāpō!
Kākāpō Recovery has announced a new population high for the species, with 90 chicks from the 2026 breeding season now officially added to the population after reaching 150 days of age - the milestone used to mark independent fledging in kākāpō.

That brings the total number of kākāpō to 325, the highest recorded during the recovery era and the first population increase since the last breeding season in 2022.

This year, 48 mothers successfully raised chicks fathered by 32 different males, while 10 chicks also hatched following artificial insemination.

There was another encouraging step too. Rangers intentionally stepped back to allow mothers to incubate eggs naturally and raise chicks with minimal human intervention, helping test how well the population can continue moving towards greater independence.

For a species once pushed so close to extinction, reaching 325 birds is an incredible milestone and a huge credit to the dedication of the Kākāpō Recovery team.

Be sure to follow Kākāpō Recovery ecovery on Facebook for updates directly from the team.
