Welcome Specks to PK9! šŸ’š

Specks is here for our behavioral modification program to address some severe dog reactivity, introductions to new dogs, figuring out why he gets a tad snappy when people pet him, and, overall, learning how to slow down. As things progressed, he began redirecting onto both his brother dog and his mom during reactive outbursts.

His mom has been on quite the journey with him, working with a few different trainers to figure out the cause of the issue—not just the symptoms. That’s exactly how we approach behavior. We always look a layer deeper, because what you’re seeing on the surface usually isn’t the root cause.

So far, we’ve met a sweet guy with an incredibly racing mind, a lack of stimulation, purpose, and proper socialization.

We’re so excited to dive into his mind, figure out how he best communicates, and help open up his world—and his mom’s world—to hikes, guests, safety, and the freedom that comes with a quiet, calm mind. We can’t wait to show you his journey.

Welcome, Twyla, to our 3–5 week Advanced Obedience + Behavioral Modification program! šŸ’š

Twyla is a 3-year-old sweetheart who came to us pretty unsure about… well, everything. She was a country girl who’s recently had to adjust to city life, so our goal is simple: make the world feel a whole lot bigger and a whole lot less scary.

Some of y’all already met her—or more accurately, heard her šŸ˜…ā€”at packwalk the other day. She’s actually been with us for a few weeks now (I’m a little behind on posting), and the difference has been incredible.

She came in shaky, scared, barking at everything, and even resorting to snapping at times, with very little understanding of manners. Fast forward to today, and she’s sprinting up and down the beach like she owns the place, exploring confidently without a peep.

We’ve still got a few weeks left with this girl, and I can’t wait to see just how much more she grows. Stay tuned for Twyla’s journey. 🐾

I hear it all the time: ā€œMy dog’s just not food motivated.ā€

First… make sure they aren’t carrying an extra 5… 10… 15 pounds around. šŸ˜‚

But beyond that? Don’t underestimate the importance of body language, ha. (Real ones get the quote.)

Can we build food motivation? Absolutely. Is it the only way to motivate a dog? Hell no.

Honestly, some of my favorite work happens when I put the treats away. (Don’t even get me started on clickers). The best moments come from play, movement, leash pressure, body language, timing, and learning to speak your dog’s language instead of expecting them to speak yours. Also don’t forget to have a sh*t ton of fun

Dogs don’t communicate with a pocket full of hot dogs. They communicate with energy, pressure, release, play, and emotion. Meet them where they are.

If your dog isn’t food motivated, don’t panic. Stop trying to force one form of communication and start building connection in the language they already understand.

Be the chaos to their want to control. That’s where the magic happens.

Specks is one of our newest B&T’s. We can’t wait to introduce him officially soon

Well damn… when I said get me your school dates ASAP, y’all really took that seriously. šŸ˜‚

August is filling fast and we’re already booking into September, so if you’ve been thinking about Day School or just want your dog living their best life with training, social time, outings, and the world’s greatest pool parties… now’s the time to text me.

Priority goes to my recurring schedule crew (love ya, you know who you are ā¤ļø), but if you can handle your own drop-off and pick-up, let me know! I can usually squeeze a few more dogs in that way.

And don’t forget… your first day is FREE.

Now quit procrastinating and send me your dates before someone else steals your spot.

Ok off to marketplace to look for a bus…

Yall wanted real time training vids so here is me wondering what life choices i made to deal with this monster @ 9:00 pm.

Realistically tho he’s so fun to work. You can see his brain and my tiny brain working together to figure out the timing on how to reward for what behaviors.

I’ll give ya an example: the last barking i was trying to wait till all the squeaky faded and he started getting into a rhythm. His bark needs improvement but the timing is the crucial part. Actually more crucial is plz play with your dog

(Camera and I aren’t friends so angles are awkward until we are so anyhoodles thanks for watching)

At Peak K-9, we’re all about transparency.
You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops, book an evaluation, or sit through a sales pitch just to find out what training costs. Our pricing has always been upfront because we believe you deserve to know exactly what you’re investing in.

We’ve worked hard to keep our programs fair and accessible, especially compared to much of the local market. More importantly, we care far more about your dog’s success than squeezing every dollar out of you.

If finances are what’s standing between you and getting help, talk to us. We offer payment plans and will always do our best to find an option that works.

The goal isn’t to sell you training. The goal is to help you build the relationship you’ve always wanted with your dog, and we don’t believe finances should ever stand in the way of that.
