Grand Prix dressage making positive progress in welfare practices; now let’s see if they hold, or if the horses demonstrate increased stress behaviors with this addition…
Grand prix dressage horses will now have to stretch on a long rein in trot during their test.
The FEI has revealed its new dressage tests for 2027, and the headline change is a 20m stretch circle in the grand prix, carrying a coefficient of two – and riders can choose whether to sit or rise.
The walk has also been rerouted, and the collective mark renamed “harmonious riding”, and although the FEI says the grand prix special is unchanged, there’s a new give and retake of the reins in canter.
The new tests come into force on 1 January 2027 – including at World Cup shows, partway through the season.
