💔 When Butterz came to ACS, we knew he needed help. We just didn’t know how much.
Butterz arrived as an owner surrender, severely emaciated and looking much older than his actual age. After running tests and starting to piece together what was going on, we learned that this little guy is only four years old.
His previous owner told us about his adorable little habit of letting his tongue stick out. We thought it was just one of those funny, quirky things that made him Butterz.
Then we looked in his mouth.
Butterz has severe dental disease, and every single one of his teeth will need to be removed. 💔
He was also diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), a serious disease caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus. FIP can cause severe illness in cats, but FIP itself is not contagious to other cats.
Butterz has been on medication for about a week, and we’re so thankful we found him a foster home for the next 84 days while he continues treatment. He’ll need bloodwork every few weeks to make sure he’s responding well and continuing to improve.
His first round of medication cost $660, and his total medication is expected to cost around $2,000. That doesn’t include his ongoing bloodwork or the dental he desperately needs once he’s through treatment.
But Butterz is a fighter. He’s affectionate, he’s a total bo**er, and despite everything his little body is going through, he’s still here fighting.
We may not know everything Butterz has been through, but we know this: he is safe, he is loved, and we are going to take care of him.
If you’d like to help us continue caring for Butterz — and the other animals who come through our doors needing the same kind of lifesaving medical care — please consider donating to our Spirit Fund. Your donation helps us say yes when an animal needs us most. 💙

We know Butterz’s happy ending is out there. We just have to get him there.
