💔 When Butterz came to ACS, we knew he needed help. We just didn’t know how much.

Butterz arrived as an owner surrender, severely emaciated and looking much older than his actual age. After running tests and starting to piece together what was going on, we learned that this little guy is only four years old.

His previous owner told us about his adorable little habit of letting his tongue stick out. We thought it was just one of those funny, quirky things that made him Butterz.

Then we looked in his mouth.

Butterz has severe dental disease, and every single one of his teeth will need to be removed. 💔

He was also diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), a serious disease caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus. FIP can cause severe illness in cats, but FIP itself is not contagious to other cats.

Butterz has been on medication for about a week, and we’re so thankful we found him a foster home for the next 84 days while he continues treatment. He’ll need bloodwork every few weeks to make sure he’s responding well and continuing to improve.

His first round of medication cost $660, and his total medication is expected to cost around $2,000. That doesn’t include his ongoing bloodwork or the dental he desperately needs once he’s through treatment.

But Butterz is a fighter. He’s affectionate, he’s a total bo**er, and despite everything his little body is going through, he’s still here fighting.

We may not know everything Butterz has been through, but we know this: he is safe, he is loved, and we are going to take care of him.

If you’d like to help us continue caring for Butterz — and the other animals who come through our doors needing the same kind of lifesaving medical care — please consider donating to our Spirit Fund. Your donation helps us say yes when an animal needs us most. 💙

You can donate to our Spirit Fund through the link in our bio. Every donation helps us keep fighting for Butterz and animals like him. 🐾

We know Butterz’s happy ending is out there. We just have to get him there.

🐾 Still searching for your perfect match? 🐾

Have you been looking and looking, but just haven’t found the right fit? Or maybe shelters make you a little sad or overwhelmed, and you’d rather meet a dog one-on-one?

We get it. ❤️

That’s why we’re bringing puppies AND adult dogs out into the community all September long! 🐶 You’ll have the chance to meet some of our available dogs, get to know their personalities, and see if one might be your perfect match — all in a more relaxed setting.

Stop by our booth at one of the upcoming events, join us for our annual Bark in the Park, or register for Ride for Rescues in partnership with Bluegrass Harley-Davidson! 🏍️🐾 The registration link is in our bio.

And if adoption isn’t on your agenda right now, come see us at Gaslight Festival, where we’ll be showing some love to our Re-Tail Thrift Shop! 🛍️

Different events, different ways to connect with ACS — and maybe, just maybe, your perfect match will be waiting for you there. 💚

📅 Check out our September lineup and come find us!

🥫🐱 WE NEED WET CAT FOOD! 🐱🥫

Kitten for attention! 😂❤️ Detour just wanted to make his appearance — and while he’s here, we’ll remind you that he is also available for adoption! 🥹🐾

Today, we’re asking our amazing supporters for a little help keeping our adult cats’ bowls full. ❤️

We go through at least one 24-pack of wet cat food EVERY SINGLE DAY. That’s a whole lot of cans and a whole lot of hungry shelter cats!

Thankfully, with kitten season, we do have some food for the babies, but we really, really need your help stocking up on adult wet cat food.

And our cats aren’t picky! 🙌
🥫 Any brand
🥫 Any size can
🥫 Pâté, chunks, gravy — they’ll take it!

HOW YOU CAN HELP 🐾

🛒 Shop our Amazon Wishlist — linked in our bio and in the comments!
🛍️ Find the best deal at your favorite store and grab a few cans while you’re there!
🏠 Drop donations off at the shelter any day of the week between 8 AM–5 PM. If we’re closed when you stop by, you can leave your donation by the shelter door and we’ll bring it in when we’re back.

We are so incredibly grateful for everyone who helps keep our shelter animals fed, comfortable, and cared for. Every can donated helps us stretch our resources a little further and makes sure a hungry cat doesn’t have to go without. ❤️

Thank you for continuing to show up for the animals who need us most. We couldn’t do this without you! 🐾

Update: Anchor went to a Foster to Adopt home this morning!

Anchor has been waiting. And waiting. And waiting. ❤️

At 2.5 years old, Anchor has spent far too long at ACS. She came to us pregnant, and while she’s safe here, the shelter has never become her home.

The packed rooms and constant noise are overwhelming for her. Anchor is often so petrified that she hides under furniture or curls up in a hidey hole, sometimes so well that you wouldn’t even know she was in the room. 💔

But there’s another side to Anchor, and we see it when someone gives her what she needs most: peace.

Sit with her. Don’t ask anything of her. Let her realize you aren’t there to disrupt her space, and she can be incredibly sweet. Every morning, Susan sits with Anchor and reminds her that everything is going to be okay. 🥹

Anchor doesn’t need a busy household or to be the center of attention. She wants a quiet home, a cozy window to watch birds, and someone who will love her on her terms. She’s very cat-friendly, independent, and can be an incredibly loyal companion. She may do best with older children and could potentially live with an older, low-energy, “mind my own business” kind of dog.

Are you looking to truly change a cat’s life? Getting Anchor out of the shelter would be her dream. You can either adopt or foster.

If you aren’t her person, please share her. Because someone out there is.

Anchor has been waiting long enough. ❤️

🚨 We need you on our event crew! 🐾

We have a LOT of events coming up, and honestly, we can’t keep showing up for our community without the support of our volunteers.

If you’re great with people, love animals, and want a fun way to get involved, event volunteering might be for you! You could help us at soccer games, festivals, fairs, community events, and even some pretty cool local restaurants—all while supporting Kentucky’s First No-Kill Shelter. 💚

You don’t have to commit to a regular weekly schedule. Pick the events that work for you, show up, have fun, and make a difference.

Interested? Check out our volunteer opportunities on our website and fill out an application to join the crew!

We have events coming up soon, and we need you! 🐶🐱
