Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

We are heartbroken to announce that Princess Fiona Buttercup, our beloved 13 year old Green Iguana, was humanely euthanized on Saturday, August 1st.

This decision was not an easy one to make. Over the past several months, her mobility had decreased significantly enough that we needed to modify her enclosure and add in daily pain medications to prevent further injury to herself. Despite these modifications and medications, her quality of life had continued to decrease. Our goal at VCA CVAH is to maintain the best quality of life for the animals in our care. As such, we wanted to grace her with a dignified end.

Fiona was originally adopted in 2018 from the Longmont Reptile Humane Society. She has given us all a wonderful 8 years of antics and we will remember her fondly.

Thank you to everyone that showed her love as they walked by her enclosure. We would like to welcome you to share any fond memories that you have of her.

We would love to hear your stories.

Loud noises, flashing lights, and unexpected booms can cause stress and anxiety in both dogs and cats.

Here are a few ways to help your pet feel safer this July 4th:

✔️ Keep pets indoors
✔️ Create a quiet, comfortable safe space
✔️ Use calming music or white noise
✔️ Close blinds and curtains
✔️ Make sure collars and microchip information are up to date
✔️ Talk with your veterinarian ahead of time if your pet struggles with anxiety

Need Anxiety medications for your pet for 4th of July? Put your refill requests in by June 29th, so they are ready to pick up on July 1st.
