While I am personally closed to new intakes (Meredith, President), our wonderful rehabbers and fosters have continued to take in pigeons as space allows. With that being said, we have several adoptable birds listed on the website currently. šŸ™‚ Applications are primarily being handled by our lovely secretary and volunteers, so we appreciate patience while we review those ā¤ļø. ADOPTED: Hi! Iā€™m Peter, and Iā€™ve been told Iā€™m one of the most resilient pigeons DCPR has ever cared for. My rescue story started in the worst way imaginable- I was shot because someone decided I was a ā€œpest.ā€ The wound was deep, and things looked pretty grim. But if I couldā€™ve talked back, I probably wouldā€™ve borrowed a line from Monty Python and declared, ā€œItā€™s but a flesh wound!ā€ That stubborn attitude carried me through three surgeries and twice-weekly trips to my amazing veterinarian from April through July. Together, we refused to give up.

These days, I wear my scar with pride, because it reminds everyone just how far Iā€™ve come. Youā€™d never guess everything Iā€™ve been through watching me zoom around. I fly, explore, and get around just like any other pigeon. More importantly, Iā€™ve discovered that life is actually pretty fun! Iā€™m equal parts sass and goofball. One minute Iā€™m acting tough, and the next Iā€™m begging for attention or inviting you to a spirited game of play-fighting. (Donā€™t worry, those little nips are just my way of saying, ā€œCome on, play with me!ā€)

Iā€™ve become especially fond of DCPRā€™s presidentā€™s husband, proving that once I decide someone is part of my flock, Iā€™m all in. It takes me a little time to build that trust, but when I do, Iā€™m an incredibly engaging companion with a huge personality. Iā€™m looking for a home that understands a feisty pigeon, laughs at my playful antics, and wonā€™t mind a little beak wrestling now and then. After everything Iā€™ve survived, I think Iā€™ve earned a forever home where being my wonderfully silly self is not only accepted, but celebrated!

ADOPTED: Hello! Weā€™re Breeze and Sunday, and if thereā€™s one thing you should know about us, itā€™s that sometimes love really does find you when you least expect it. Breeze here (blue bar, female)- Iā€™m a 2025 racing homer who arrived at the rescue with a broken wing and a heavy heart. And Iā€™m Sunday (check, male), a 2026 racing homer who was found weak and alone outside a local restaurant on Motherā€™s Day. I was still so young I squeaked like a baby! We both ended up in the loving care of our rehab foster, Rachel, and somewhere between the medications, cozy naps, and healing, we found each other.

Our pasts may have been difficult, but our future has always been side by side. We spent our recovery cuddled together, finding comfort in someone who understood exactly what the other had been through. Weā€™re proof that even racing survivors can find peace, safety, and a little romance after leaving that life behind. These days, youā€™ll usually find us snuggled close, content just being together.

As a bonded pair, our greatest love will always be each other, but thereā€™s still room in our flock for you. Once we learn that weā€™re safe, weā€™re both gentle, friendly pigeons who enjoy the company of kind people. With patience, understanding, and a little time, we can become wonderful flock-mates and companions. If youā€™re looking to welcome not just two pigeons, but a genuine love story into your home, we think youā€™ll find ours is pretty special.

Hi yā€™all! Weā€™ve received a few emails lately asking for help containing domestic pigeons. However, no contact or specific location information (like an address) is ever given in these emails. If you need urgent help with a bird, our voicemail is the fasted way to reach us. Otherwise, please give specific details when reaching out for urgent help. Thanks!

As a reminder, our adoption application requires a photo of the physical cage you have already purchased for the bird in order to move beyond the initial application stage. Inspiration photos, screenshots of cages you plan to buy, or photos of cages still in progress do not meet this requirement.

To be clear, we do not require the cage to be decorated or fully set up at this stage. We discuss cage setup, enrichment, and dƩcor during the interview process, and we understand that many adopters prefer to wait until they have been approved before purchasing those items. However, the cage itself must already be in your possession.

Over time, we have made exceptions to this requirement at the request of applicants. Unfortunately, this has frequently resulted in applications being "pre-approved pending cage purchase," only for communication to cease after we have invested significant time reviewing applications and conducting interviews.

We are a small, volunteer-run rescue. Currently, only two volunteers are available to review applications and conduct interviews (one being myself), and I am personally undergoing multiple surgeries and medical procedures this summer. Because of this, we need to be mindful of where our limited time and resources are spent.

Thus, as stated on our application, only applications that include photos of the applicant's actual cage will be considered for follow-up communication. You are welcome to complete the application before purchasing a cage, but we will not begin the review process or reach out regarding the application until cage photos have been received.

We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure our volunteers can continue helping as many birds as possible.

ADOPTED: Iā€™m Battle Ship, and yeah, Iā€™ve already lived through more than most pigeons my age. I was found outside a Best Buy after what looked like a predator scare and a bad collision, still just a squeaking baby. I was cold, hurt, and way too young to be out on practice racing runs. A quick-thinking employee scooped me up and kept me safe until rescuers arrived. Honestly, that fast action is probably why Iā€™m still here today.

Iā€™m still growing up, which means Iā€™m right in the middle of ā€œcoobertyā€ (pigeon puberty, and yes, itā€™s as awkward as it sounds). Some days Iā€™m a little skittish, still figuring out the world and my place in it. But other times? My baby side sneaks right back out, and Iā€™ll ask for soft cuddles and comfort like the little squeaker I recently was. My genderā€™s still a mystery, and my wings wonā€™t ever carry me like a typical racerā€™s- but I get around just fine and Iā€™m learning that Iā€™m safe now.

What I need is someone who understands that growing up can be messy, especially after a rough start. With patience, kindness, and a little extra love during my awkward phases, Iā€™m going to grow into a deeply devoted companion. I may not fly far, but Iā€™ve got a lot of heart, and Iā€™m ready to give it to the right home.
