Are you a pet owner who likes sugar free food? Then you need to know this: Xylitol is a common artificial sweetener and it is highly poisonous to dogs. It causes a rapid release of insulin leading to a sudden drop in blood sugar. Large amounts can also cause severe liver failure. Common household sources include:
- Gum & Breath mints
- Sugar Free Baked Goods
- Candy
- Certain Peanut Butter Brands (check labels!)
