Looking for your newest family member? Meet Twizzy. ❤️

Twizzy is an approximately 10–12 week old mixed-breed puppy searching for a loving forever home. She may be a little shy when meeting new people, but each day she grows more confident as she experiences new sights, sounds, and adventures. Once she feels comfortable, her sweet personality begins to shine.

While in our care, Twizzy has done well with other dogs, cats, and toddlers. She is currently working on house training and is making great progress. She is eager to learn and would thrive in a patient, caring home that will continue to help her build confidence and feel secure.

Twizzy has already begun her puppy wellness care, including vaccinations, deworming, and monthly parasite prevention. We plan to have her spayed when she is a little older and developmentally ready.

Every puppy deserves a family to love them, and Twizzy is no exception. She has so much potential and is simply waiting for someone to give her the chance she deserves.

A good home is a must, and an adoption fee will apply to help ensure a committed placement.

If you would like to meet Twizzy and learn more about adopting her, please call our office at (478) 625-3021. We would love to help her find the forever family she’s been waiting for. 🐾💕

‼️🚨 A L E R T 🚨‼️
Please take note and take the detailed precautions to help decrease chances of your animal being infected! This does not just apply to livestock and horses - cats and dogs are at risk, also.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has provided an important update on New World Screwworm which has been detected in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. Read the full press release here: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-announcements/usda-confirms-presence-new-world-screwworm-united-states

General information about New World Screwworm (NWS) can be found in the text below and in the attached infographic.

The adult screwworm fly is about the size of a common housefly (or slightly larger), with orange eyes, a metallic blue or green body, and three dark stripes along its back. It gets its name from the behavior of its larvae (maggots) as they burrow (screw) into the wound, feeding as they go. The maggots (larvae) cause extensive damage by tearing at the hosts’ tissue with sharp mouth hooks. The wound can quickly become enlarged and deeper as more maggots hatch and feed on living tissue.

Because they feed on live flesh, NWS maggots may burrow deep into wounds or openings, while other species of maggots may appear around the outer surface of the wound. In addition, even the smallest wounds have the potential to attract flies, so it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your animals for any signs of wounds.

Lastly, NWS infestations are a reportable disease! Immediately report any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to a local accredited veterinarian, your State Animal Health Official, or a USDA veterinarian.

For more information, reference this resource from the U.S. Department of Agriculture: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/animals/animal-health/livestock-and-poultry-disease/stop-screwworm

Update on the dog found at the Elementary school. Dixie, as she was named by the ones that picked her up, is doing well. She is heartworm negative. Gets along well with all animals and just wants to sit in someone's lap. She knows how to sit and kennel up. Not a young dog, but not very old. She is chipped but not registered.
Any interests or donations to her care can be made to Ogeechee Veterinary Associates, P.C. at 478-625-3021.

We are saddened to share that this dog was abandoned at our office today during business hours. The dog was left confined in a cage placed in the flower bushes, exposed to the sun, with an overturned water bowl. Upon initial evaluation, the dog is severely matted and is not using her right rear leg.

Abandoning an animal in this manner is deeply concerning and unacceptable. We are currently providing care and assessing the dog’s condition.

If you recognize this dog or the cage, or if you have any information regarding who may have left the animal at our facility, please contact our office at (478) 625-3021. Any information provided may help us ensure accountability and the safety and well-being of this animal.

As we enter our third year in our new facility, we look forward to a vibrant summer season and encourage our clients to ensure their pets are current on all recommended care and preventive needs.

Beyond routine wellness visits and vaccinations, we provide comprehensive in-hospital care that sets us apart from many outpatient clinics. We are proud to offer a full spectrum of veterinary services for both large and small animals, thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of our community:
* Large & Small Animal Medicine and Routine Surgical Procedures
* More Advanced Surgical Procedures (orthopedic and soft tissue)
* Inpatient/Hospital-based Care (Small Animal)
* Boarding for dogs and cats
* Equine Performance Dentistry
* Emergency Services (Large & Small Animal) during designated hours — we are one of few hospitals in the surrounding area to provide this level of care during non-business hours.

Please note: We are only open the FIRST and THIRD Saturdays of each month (8a-11a) and appointment is preferred.

Our practice has been serving Jefferson County and surrounding areas since 1955, when it was founded by Dr. Veatch. Dr. Pritchard joined the practice in 1984 and later acquired ownership. Continuing the tradition, Dr. Pritchard’s daughter, Dr. Taylor, returned to her hometown and joined the practice in 2018.

We remain committed to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care while honoring the legacy of service established over the past several decades.

Garfield is a loving dog who was recently surrendered due to his owner needing to relocate for health reasons. This difficult decision was made out of care for his well-being, and he is now looking for a new home where he can feel safe and cherished again.
He has been the only pet in his home and would do best as the only dog, in a household without cats. Garfield thrives on attention and companionship and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, devoted friend.
With a little time to adjust, he is sure to form a strong bond and bring comfort and joy to his new family.

Please contact our office, (478) 625-3021, for more information and to schedule a time to come meet him 🤍🩵

As you start your spring cleaning, please consider donating gently used towels, sheets, blankets, and comforters to support your local veterinary clinic. These linens are essential for keeping our furry patients warm, comfortable, and clean while they receive care and recover from procedures. Your donations help us create a cozy, stress-free environment for animals in need and allow us to focus more resources on their medical treatment. Clean items in good condition are greatly appreciated, and every contribution—big or small—makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the pets we serve.
