🐷🔨 RESCUE #001: THE “LITTLE” PIGS PROJECT
Somewhere in Louisville area, there is a contractor who is going to read this and think:
“Those pigs couldn’t destroy something WE built.”
We would very much like to meet you. 😂
Pigs were our first love at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary.
And although they are officially called “mini pigs,” some of our piggy pals are among our biggest, toughest, and oldest sanctuary residents.
They’re smart.
They’re stubborn.
They’re incredibly strong.
And apparently, a few of them have developed an interest in residential demolition.
Earlier this year, they managed to destroy their permanent shelter.
No Big Bad Wolf required.
The pigs were the Big Bad Wolf.
They also gave us a fairly brutal performance review of our own construction skills, so this time…
we’re calling in the professionals. 😂
Welcome to:
🐷 RESCUE #001: THE “LITTLE” PIGS PROJECT
We’re looking for a Louisville-area contractor, builder, carpenter, handyman, or construction company willing to become our Build Captain and help give these guys their house back.
And before that phrase scares anyone away:
Being the Build Captain does NOT automatically mean your company has to pay for every nail, board, and hour of labor.
Maybe one company wants to tackle the whole thing.
Maybe someone donates labor while we work together to source materials.
Maybe a local supplier wants to jump in.
Maybe several businesses each contribute a piece.
We’re willing to get creative.
What we really need is someone with the skills and experience to help us lead the project, figure out the smartest way to build it, and make this one pig-proof.
And we are NOT asking for anything huge or fancy.
Their old shelter was compact and simple, and that worked beautifully.
The new one needs to be:
Simple. Functional. Durable.
Dry enough for deep bedding.
Cozy enough for winter pig piles.
Shaded and ventilated for Louisville summers.
Accessible as our pigs get older.
And preferably strong enough that the residents don’t immediately decide it needs an open-concept floor plan.
Once those needs are met?
HAVE FUN WITH IT.
We would LOVE for whoever takes on Rescue #001 to leave some personality behind.
Maybe the facade nods to the Three Little Pigs with a little straw, sticks, and brick.
Maybe it becomes Big Bad Pig Construction Co.
Maybe someone builds Louisville’s smallest roadside motel:
The Snout House. 😂
Build them what they need.
Make it look like whatever makes you smile.
As long as it’s safe, functional, durable, and comfortable for the pigs, we want the builder to be able to look at it afterward and say:
“Yep. We built that.”
Our biggest hope is to find one contractor or company willing to lead most of the build so we can get these guys back into a permanent shelter sooner rather than later.
Butterfly Valley will work alongside you, help source materials and additional support, manage the animals during construction, and handle the sanctuary side of the project.
And if you can’t lead the whole thing but could help with materials, labor, equipment, roofing, carpentry, site work, or another piece of the build, we absolutely still want to hear from you.
This does not need to be elaborate.
It just needs to be built right.
So, Louisville builders…
Come meet the demolition crew.
See what they did to the last house.
Look at the site.
Tell us what you would build.
There is no commitment required just to come take a look.
But fair warning:
You may leave thinking…
“Those pigs couldn’t destroy something I built.”
And those are exactly the words we’re hoping to hear. 😏
