🏈🐔 Honey wants to know…

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS WEEKEND IS?!

Labor Day weekend? Well…yes. But that’s not what he’s excited about.

The first full weekend of meteorological fall? Technically true—but seriously, do you really think Honey put on an entire football helmet and shoulder pads to celebrate the weather? 😂

IT’S OFFICIALLY COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON! 💙🤍

Honey has all his blue-and-white gear ready, and he’s been practicing his “GO BIG BLUE!” chant all week.

At least…we’re pretty sure that’s what those noises mean. 😂📣

Honey is suited up and ready to cheer on the Kentucky Wildcats!

Who will YOU be cheering for this weekend? Tell Honey your team in the comments! 👇

GO BIG BLUE! 💙🤍

Before we got Phish's good splints and while trying to give this little guy support. Phish was the most medically fragile guy we have ever got.

In the beginning there were days we really worried if he would make it. I shed many tears and prayed so hard for my Mr. Phish.

Phish wasn't born with a body he had to adapt to. Phish was given a body by harsh nature and neglect from the people who threw him into being auctioned. People chose to throw this baby to chance for money in their pocket. The lady and her friend who got him tried for him but even their vet felt that their hands were tied. I am glad the people who had him contacted us to help Phish.

It hasn't been an easy road but the ride along the road has been worth it. Phish is one of the biggest fighters I've ever seen a true gentleman for when he sees me he gets to me as quickly as he can.

When Phish was learning to walk again he started walking sideways. Now he is walking pretty well. Phish wears splints still a lot. Pretty much all of Phish's legs are "trash legs" I sorta hate to use that term but we are real here. Phish's legs were so eaten up with infection, that it ate away at his bones. Now the infection is gone but the damage is there. So we are supporting the bones and fusion Phish has now. So when you see Phish in a splint or splints it is due to supporting him.

I don't know how animals can adapt so well, how animals can love so well. I am just glad they can. We will be here to help where we can but they are the real miracles. This is a little behind the pictures and videos with music, some of the cutesy stuff. The real and sometimes raw moment. The moments I look back on sometimes and wonder how all of us did any of it. The beautiful animal friends we get to love and care for. The bittersweetness of it all.

This little troublemaker has the right idea for surviving this week’s heat. 😂

Ruth found herself a shady spot, climbed onto a spool, and declared it her personal lounging platform.

When Mother Nature turns the heat up, you improvise. 🐐☀️

🐷🔨 RESCUE #001: THE “LITTLE” PIGS PROJECT

Somewhere in Louisville area, there is a contractor who is going to read this and think:

“Those pigs couldn’t destroy something WE built.”

We would very much like to meet you. 😂

Pigs were our first love at Butterfly Valley Rescue & Sanctuary.

And although they are officially called “mini pigs,” some of our piggy pals are among our biggest, toughest, and oldest sanctuary residents.

They’re smart.
They’re stubborn.
They’re incredibly strong.

And apparently, a few of them have developed an interest in residential demolition.

Earlier this year, they managed to destroy their permanent shelter.

No Big Bad Wolf required.

The pigs were the Big Bad Wolf.

They also gave us a fairly brutal performance review of our own construction skills, so this time…

we’re calling in the professionals. 😂

Welcome to:

🐷 RESCUE #001: THE “LITTLE” PIGS PROJECT

We’re looking for a Louisville-area contractor, builder, carpenter, handyman, or construction company willing to become our Build Captain and help give these guys their house back.

And before that phrase scares anyone away:

Being the Build Captain does NOT automatically mean your company has to pay for every nail, board, and hour of labor.

Maybe one company wants to tackle the whole thing.

Maybe someone donates labor while we work together to source materials.

Maybe a local supplier wants to jump in.

Maybe several businesses each contribute a piece.

We’re willing to get creative.

What we really need is someone with the skills and experience to help us lead the project, figure out the smartest way to build it, and make this one pig-proof.

And we are NOT asking for anything huge or fancy.

Their old shelter was compact and simple, and that worked beautifully.

The new one needs to be:

Simple. Functional. Durable.

Dry enough for deep bedding.
Cozy enough for winter pig piles.
Shaded and ventilated for Louisville summers.
Accessible as our pigs get older.

And preferably strong enough that the residents don’t immediately decide it needs an open-concept floor plan.

Once those needs are met?

HAVE FUN WITH IT.

We would LOVE for whoever takes on Rescue #001 to leave some personality behind.

Maybe the facade nods to the Three Little Pigs with a little straw, sticks, and brick.

Maybe it becomes Big Bad Pig Construction Co.

Maybe someone builds Louisville’s smallest roadside motel:

The Snout House. 😂

Build them what they need.

Make it look like whatever makes you smile.

As long as it’s safe, functional, durable, and comfortable for the pigs, we want the builder to be able to look at it afterward and say:

“Yep. We built that.”

Our biggest hope is to find one contractor or company willing to lead most of the build so we can get these guys back into a permanent shelter sooner rather than later.

Butterfly Valley will work alongside you, help source materials and additional support, manage the animals during construction, and handle the sanctuary side of the project.

And if you can’t lead the whole thing but could help with materials, labor, equipment, roofing, carpentry, site work, or another piece of the build, we absolutely still want to hear from you.

This does not need to be elaborate.

It just needs to be built right.

So, Louisville builders…

Come meet the demolition crew.

See what they did to the last house.

Look at the site.

Tell us what you would build.

There is no commitment required just to come take a look.

But fair warning:

You may leave thinking…

“Those pigs couldn’t destroy something I built.”

And those are exactly the words we’re hoping to hear. 😏

🔨 STATUS: LOOKING FOR A BUILD CAPTAIN

Adopt a Shelter. Build a Difference.

Know the contractor who would take this challenge personally?

TAG THEM. SEND THIS TO THEM. CHALLENGE THEM.

Contractors, builders, handymen, suppliers, or anyone who thinks they can outbuild a herd of very determined pigs — send us a Facebook message or comment below and we’ll get you the project details. 🐷🔨

🍂 EXCUSE ME, MOTHER NATURE. WE NEED TO DISCUSS SEPTEMBER. 🥵

We have officially entered the "ber" months.

You know… the months where Mother Nature is supposed to calm down a little.

Hoodies.
Bonfires.
Cool mornings.
Crisp fall air.
Maybe even the occasional blanket. 🍁

Apparently, Mother Nature did not get the memo.

The calendar flipped to September, and somebody immediately flipped the HEAT back on. 🥵🔥

Today and tomorrow are forecasted to be our two hottest days of the entire year, which feels incredibly disrespectful, considering we have mentally moved on to pumpkins and sweatshirt weather.

So, while Louisville is out here roasting, we’ll just be over here manifesting THIS.

Cool. Crisp. Fall.

The kind of weather where our boy Tippy could curl up three years ago with his little plaid blanket and look like he had absolutely nowhere to be except a bonfire. 😂❤️

Mother Nature, please refer to Tippy’s attached presentation.

THIS is September.

Not whatever you’re currently doing. 🍂🐐❤️

🐐 HAPPY HUMP DAY FROM PHISH! 🐐

Phish would like everyone to know that he has officially reached the part of the week where the only acceptable plans are:

✅ Find a comfy patch of grass.
✅ Flop dramatically.
✅ Flash the tiny teefs.
✅ Look ridiculously handsome.
✅ Let the hoomans worry about everything else. 😂

Considering everything this little guy has overcome, we’re pretty sure he’s earned the right to take Hump Day at his own pace.

And judging by that face… Phish has absolutely zero worries.

Happy Wednesday from one very happy, very handsome little dude. 🦋

These 2 co-founders of something so beautiful here. We call all the in between runs training for Miles for Miracles. Our little trainer Tater is still pushing us forward here. Brandon did the Pure Tap 5k Saturday that was for our sweet sponsor babies. Sunday we did the Blackacre Barnstormer 4 miles. No babies got to cheer us on but we did get to see so many beautiful animal friends there. Might have been one of my favorite runs I've done.

Oh, do you also see Tater's whistle 💚

Big boy Tombo was really feeling himself today. 🦃😂

Just look at that strut. The feathers. The confidence. The complete lack of concern about the construction zone behind him.

And yes… unfortunately, that IS the back wall of one of the shelters that he’s standing on. Apparently the goats decided they wanted a more open floor plan and took it upon themselves to do a little DIY renovation. 🙃🔨🐐

No permits.
No blueprints.
No contractor.
Just goats.

Don’t worry — rebuilding the wall has officially been added to the ever-growing list of things the hoomans need to repair around Butterfly Valley.

Tombo, meanwhile, would like everyone to know that he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

He’s just here to supervise. 😂🦃💙

When we rescued Orville earlier this week, this sweet little guy could barely stand without help. Walking on his own definitely wasn’t happening.

And now… LOOK AT HIM. 🥹🐔

After just a few days of therapy, patience, encouragement, and lots of one-on-one work with Hooman Mudder, Orville is already looking like a completely different bird.

He’s standing.
He’s taking steps.
He’s getting stronger.
And judging by that face, he seems to be saying:

“I have absolutely no idea why everyone was worried about me.” 😂

There’s still work ahead, but watching this much progress happen this quickly has been pretty incredible. Sometimes they just need someone willing to meet them where they are and help them figure out what comes next.

Keep going, Orville. We’re right here with you. 💙

On your marks… get set… GOAT. 🐐

Before yesterday’s Pure Tap 5K, Caroline looked like she was locked into the most serious starting stance of her very tiny life.

She may be blind.
She may be one month old.
She may have absolutely no understanding of race rules, pacing, or why Hooman Fodder keeps doing this.

But for one glorious moment, she looked ready to take off and absolutely dominate the world’s tiniest goat division.

Unfortunately, race officials were not prepared for a blind baby goat heat.

So Caroline settled for supervising, stealing hearts, and making sure everyone knew exactly who the real athlete was. 🦋💜
