Some storm prep ideas for your pets! Kiawah Kennel & Farm is ready!
🐾 Pet Safety Reminder: Upcoming Snowstorm & Winter Weather
With snow and colder temperatures on the way, we’d like to remind all residents to take a few extra steps to keep their pets safe and comfortable during the storm and throughout the winter season.
Before & During the Snow:
Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Extremely cold temperatures can be dangerous, even for animals with thick fur.
Limit time outside and watch for signs of cold stress such as shivering, lifting paws, or whining.
Protect paws from ice, snow, and de-icing products. Wipe paws and bellies after walks to remove salt or chemicals.
Never leave pets in vehicles during cold weather—cars can quickly become dangerously cold.
Outdoor Safety:
Ensure pets have proper identification (collar tags and microchips) in case they get lost during snowy conditions.
Keep pets leashed during walks; snow and ice can hide hazards or make familiar areas disorienting.
Provide warm, dry shelter if your pet must go outside briefly, and always ensure access to fresh, unfrozen water.
Winter Home Care:
Watch for antifreeze spills, which are highly toxic to pets—even small amounts can be fatal.
Keep space heaters, candles, and cords out of reach to prevent burns or accidents.
Maintain a regular feeding schedule and ensure pets are getting enough calories to stay warm.
Thank you for helping keep all our furry friends warm and safe! ❄️🐶🐱
