This guy is looking for a new home!

Meet Silas, the 1-year-old Heeler/Hound mix who lives life to the fullest!

Silas is:
~42 pounds
Full of zoomies
Good with dogs, but is a little bit of a ladies' man

Silas has been in a board-and-train program with Back to Balance Canine Training for a month and a half and will come with training lessons from them!

Time to get to work on pack exercises and bring some normalcy to dog interactions around here! Lucy the Weimaraner gets so crazy around dogs, so we're ripping the bandaid off and working on her focus when cues are given - playtime will have to wait!

Go home weekend means bath day!

Lucy and Gabby are completing their program and Simson got a much needed bath before going to his new home on Monday! Berry came for the ride and got a much needed bath as well.

In my program spatial pressure plays a key role. This is one way it’s broken down into a specific command. This is a valuable tool when working on a dog state of mind. I use this to draw my dog’s attention to me or to ask them to cycle down from an arousal state.

Lucy really struggles with solely responding to spatial pressure so in this video I am using food to help keep her head and body stable so I can push only her hip over.

Cinnamon’s first time with the pack.

It’s important to understand how our presence and proximity can shape a dog’s emotions—especially in group settings. Cinnamon gets uncomfortable when her personal space is challenged and tends to react defensively if other dogs approach too closely.

For this reason, I’m being very intentional about claiming my space and not allowing her to be in mine during these early group sessions. For a dog like Cinnamon, being in my space acts as a reward—it creates attachment and emotional elevation. It can also put me in a position where I become something to guard if another dog comes close.

By maintaining that clear boundary, I help keep her emotions neutral. She can learn to coexist calmly with other dogs without relying on my presence for security or control. The goal right now isn’t affection or comfort—it’s clarity, neutrality, and balance within the group.
