Best decision I ever made was bringing home this sickly puppy and rehabbing her back to health. Best friend for life now! 🥰

Legacy was so happy to see me and fall back to the normal routine, but she truly enjoyed the relaxing vaca with my mom, doing whatever she pleased, getting pet by EVERYONE and just truly getting to be the naturally good dog she is.🖤

Today I was at the imaging center getting more testing done, just minding my business and waiting like everyone else.

Medical buildings are always such an interesting environment to bring a service dog into because there’s so much happening, but in a quieter, more subtle way. People coming in and out, wheelchairs, walkers, nervous energy, different smells, staff moving around, patients waiting for results, people not feeling well, and everyone kind of sitting in their own little world.

Tamashii was with me, doing what she always does in those moments, settling in close and staying connected to me while I handled what I needed to handle.

Then another dog came in.

And I don’t know, something about the contrast of two dogs being in the same space at the same time made me really think about how differently dogs can show up in public settings.

Not even in a judgmental way. More in a “this is exactly why public access training matters” kind of way.

Because in real life, service work isn’t happening in a perfectly controlled training session. It happens in waiting rooms, doctor’s offices, imaging centers, airports, grocery stores. Places where people are stressed, distracted, sick, tired, overwhelmed, or just trying to get through the day.

And in those spaces, the dog’s job isn’t to be impressive. It isn’t to be noticed. It isn’t to be social, entertaining, or cute for everyone around them.

✨It’s to be steady.✨

That’s really what I kept thinking about. How much public access comes down to steadiness. The ability to move through a space without adding chaos to it. The ability to exist around strangers, sounds, movement, and other dogs without making the environment bigger than it already is.

So I’ll leave this one open.

Same room…same environment.
Two very different presentations.
