Rescued from a neglected situation and being ‘given away’ Clayton had zero training . There’s many different approaches trainers recommend especially with a large rambunctious dog . I feel we have a relationship with our dogs that needs to forged through trust guidance and being their teacher.
It’s not just the end result it’s also the journey and short cuts through punitive compliance often doesn’t work long term and undermines the journey.

Eye contact is key to getting a dialed in dog . If you wait for that look and then reward with giving them what they want like to eat, move through a threshold , go sniff , greet someone etc then they’ll start to defer to you .
Your dog will think ‘Calm eye contact gets me what I want ‘
