Meet PD, she is 2 years old and a beautiful poodle. She was rescued off a freeway in Los Angeles. (Rescued from the car pool lane on the 101 fwy) She was in horrific pain as she was hit by a car. The Police Department was notified by Hope for Paws and they decided to close the whole freeway in order to rescue her. It was an incredible team effort to get her safe. Amazing rescue work and many thanks to for rescuing her and bringing her to the CARES team immediately. Upon first examination, there was slim hope that we could save the limb and there was a possibility the leg needed to be amputated. Dr. Pedraza decided not to amputate and repair these complex fractures.

We repaired :
-Left metatarsal digit 2nd and 3rd, complete transverse fractures at proximal aspect.
-Left metatarsal digit 4th-5th luxated.
-Complete oblique fracture to proximal aspect of Left tibia and fibula.

These fractures were repaired with a titanium locking plate and 2 titanium k-wires. It provided the stability on the tibia/fibula, on the proximal intertarsal joint, the torn plantar ligament, and the 2nd and 3rd metarsal digits.

Today, she has incredibly and miraculously recovered to full strength and she is living such a happy life. Thank you to for saving her and giving us the opportunity to work on this complex case. Special thanks to the amazing team at CARES for assisting us with this case. This is seriously a miracle walking on 4 paws and we are extremely pleased with the outcome 😁🙏🏽
