Juneteenth forces us to wrestle with an uncomfortable truth.

Freedom was proclaimed in 1863, but many enslaved people didn’t learn they were free until June 19, 1865. For more than two years, freedom existed on paper while people remained in bo***ge.

That part of the story matters.
Because Juneteenth reminds us that progress is not inevitable. Rights can be delayed. Justice can be resisted. And freedom requires people willing to keep pushing society closer to its ideals.

As we honor those who endured slavery and celebrated liberation against all odds, we also recognize that every generation inherits work left unfinished.

The responsibility before us is not simply to remember history, but to learn from it.

To tell the truth about it.
To teach it.
To protect it.
To build a future worthy of the sacrifices that came before us.

Juneteenth is a celebration.
But it is also a call to continue the work.

Freedom. Resilience. Progress.
