It’s been a year now since I took this course and Toast has come so far with his intense prey drive (and Hyper Arousal). We have worked hard and to be honest, the work is continual. Predation Substitute Training is not for slackers. We always have be one step ahead as much as possible to help set them up for success.

PST isn’t about curbing your dogs prey drive, it’s more about redirecting and hunting with them! Getting some of the predation sequence on cue… like “Scan, Creep and Stalk”…. Then rewarding by tossing a high value treat for them to be able to satisfy the Chase & Grab part of the predation sequence! There is also a lot of FOCUS work before anything… strengthening the connection between you and your dog helping them orient back to when out in the land of triggers!

Need help with your High Prey Drive dog… DM me. I’m here to help!

On Wednesdays, we wear PFDs! 💅🏼 🛟

Recently I had a couple exceptionally under socialized puppies (4 & 6 months old). They were afraid of the outdoors and had hardly been on a leash, so we had some aclimating to do before going to a big pool to swim in, in 2 weeks (The last day of their Board and Train).

First I had to aclimate the puppies to the water in a little kiddy pool. Once they started going in on their own and having fun with that (and also knowing they both like water - never force anything), it was time to start acclimating the pups to their personal flotation devices— they’re 🦈 shark themed, of course!

This is a process, not something you just want to stress your dog out with on the day you’re headed to the pool. I like to take it slow and let the pups get used to the feeling of the vests, even in just a small bit of water and also be sure they feel comfortable walking around and can move in their bulky shark gear. We took an entire 2 weeks for all of this and by then I knew they were confident and ready!

They also happen to look pretty cute in their vests, so that’s fun too!

Stay tuned for a post on their swim day in the big boy pool!!

If you’re looking for something to do with your puppy this ☀️ summer, try bringing them to Puppy Social!

Stop by Up Dog LA with your pup if interested— puppies 6️⃣ months and younger are welcome to join to get monitored, positive socialization and lots of fun!

If interested in your puppy participating please DM me with your email address and details will be sent to you.

My Sunday Puppy Social is so much more than just puppies playing - we help them learn how to play nice and regulate. They also build confidence & coordination by climbing on all the equipment & sniffing their way through my sensory box and Ball Pit!

All this helps with 🧠 brain development! There is so much for your little pup to learn grow from here and you can ask me (certified dog trainer), any questions you may have. 🐶

Happy 4th of July! 🎆

Wishing everyone a safe, calm, and quiet holiday for their pups! Remember:

• Check that tags and collars are on
• Give your pup a safe space
• Play background noise to cover the sound of fireworks
• Take them for long walks earlier in the day to burn off some energy

It is officially 🔥 HOT outside! That summer sun is definitely being felt!

If you have a pup who you regularly walk, make sure you know this tip;

Check the 🌡️ temperature of the ground before letting your pup walk on it! If you can hold the back of your hand against the ground for at least 10 seconds, you’re good to go. If not, it is too hot for your pup’s bare paws and could burn them!

Asphalt and concrete are usually the very hot surfaces, so make sure you’re checking their temperature before your walks.

If you’re in a super hot area, try and walk your dog earlier in the day or in the evening. This way, you can avoid the ☀️ hottest part of the day during your walks.

You can also acclimate your dog to wearing booties that can also prevent their pads from burns!

➡️ Send this tip to another dog parent who could use it, and stay safe and cool in this heat! 💙
