I’ve been quiet on here as of late.

Truth be told, I need a break from Facebook. For how long, I’m not sure.

So for that, please know that I won’t be posting on here for the next little while.

I am however much more active and enjoying Instagram more. So if you are not already, give us a follow over there at .

Thank you and stay safe and healthy! ❤️

It’s going to be a hot one here all week.

This should go without having to say it, but do NOT leave your pets in a vehicle.

“I’ll only be in for a minute” - You can absolutely never guarantee that, so do not risk it. I’ve never been in and out of anywhere in a minute.

“Oh but I leave the air conditioning on.” - And what happens if it shuts off? Becaie that can and does happen.

“Oh, but they love to come with me”. - That’s great, but they are better off at home. They are dogs, they forgive and forget quickly. Plus, they can’t come everywhere with you all the time.

Please leave your pets at home, indoors with plenty of fresh water.

It’s going to be a hot one here this week. Make sure sure to keep your pets safe if you decide to take them out for a walk.

It will be seriously hot this week so make sure to do your dog walking in the early morning or the evening.
If you cant here's some tips to help make your walk safe:
-Go for a short walk rather then a long one. You don't want your dog to get overheated.
-Test the sidewalk before you go, if it's too hot for your hand for 8 seconds its too hot for your dog to walk on.
-Bring lots of water for both you and the dog(s).
-Opt to go routes with lots of shade or more grass to walk on.
-Do doggy daycare instead of walks or safe play date with resident doggy bestie.
-Use cooling vests or bandanna.
-Go to dog park or a lake instead (just make sure to always stay 6ft away from people! good recall is a requirement to do this).

What tips do you have to keep your pup cool during hot days on walks?

No, I wasn’t digging in the dirt. - Freckles.

I took a much needed trip out to Elk Island National Park yesterday. The dogs loved it. So many new things to smell and p*e on. And for Freckles, so much grass and dirt to dog and eat.

Anytime a rescue posts a photo of a litter of puppies, they always get inundated with the same questions.

Are they pure bred? No, the puppies are always mixed breed.

What breed are they? Mixed breed. Seriously, we don’t know. Many of them likely have Shepard and or Husky in them. What else? We have no clue. That’s what they are called Alberta special.

How big will they get? Big. We can’t guarantee size.

Will they shed? Yes, all dogs shed. Seriously, stop asking that stupid question. 🤦‍♀️

Can I reserve one? Absolutely not. If you want one, you have to go through the process like everyone else by filling out an application. It never has been and never will be based on first come, first serve. It’s about best fit.

The truth about teacup dogs.

Though yes these dogs are cute and stay small they can be very prone to many health issues. This is because they breed the smallest of the litter, aka the runt which is prone to many health issues. These teachcup dogs have an increased risk of suffering from serious health problems including:

-hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
-breathing problems
-heart disease
-sliding kneecaps which can lead to arthritis
-liver shunts – abnormal blood vessels that bypass the liver leading to problems including poor growth and seizures
-hydrocephalus – a brain deformity also known as water on the brain. This condition can cause seizures and blindness due to a build-up of fluid inside a dog’s skull which then puts pressure on their brain.
-Dental problems because their teeth are so crammed in their mouth.
-Easier to injure due to smaller size and bones.

These pups can also just be malnourished puppies where the owner just doesn't feed them as much in order to get the small size and the higher pay day. It is extremely important to be very cautious when buying from a breeder and only buy from a good one. But even good breeders of teacup dogs can still have puppies with health issues just because of their size. We recommend instead getting a normal sized small breed puppy from a high quality breeder. It will save you heart break and vet bills in the future.

I understand that it’s been a stressful time for a lot of people.

But, it’s never ok to take out your frustration or anger on others, especially for those who are doing everything they can to help.

I’ve heard an alarming amount of verbal and in this case, physical abuse, towards vets and staff at vets. I’ve seen signs that have gone up and even had a conversation with my own vet office when I saw the signs.

No one is happy with the restrictions right now, but people need to understand WHY they are there. They also will not last forever.

If you are struggling mentally, please reach out for help instead of taking things out on those around you. There are many resources available (including many that are free, such as Distress Lines) and many options for counseling and therapy.

If people had a little bit more empathy, the world would be a much better place and we would all get through through this much faster.
