Southern California weather is keeping us on our toes—and our horses need a little extra attention, too. 🐴💧
You’ve probably heard the phrase “colic weather.” The connection? Hot afternoons can mean more sweating, while cooler weather can mean less drinking. Changes in hydration and daily routines can increase colic risk.
Your barn checklist doesn’t need to be fancy:
💧 Watch how much your horse actually drinks.
🌾 Keep forage and feeding routines consistent.
🐴 Notice changes in appetite, manure, and behavior.
Salt, equine electrolytes after heavy sweating, and appropriately soaked feed may support everyday care. Ask your veterinarian what’s suitable for your horse—there’s no magic scoop that treats colic.
Swipe through, save this for your next barn check, and share it with a horse friend. 🤎
