URANIUM ORE ACCIDENT ON NAVAJO NATION: ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS AVERTED—THIS TIME ⚠️
The Navajo Police Department responded Wednesday to a crash involving a semi-truck carrying uranium ore from the Grand Canyon's South Rim to a mill in Utah. The accident occurred about a half mile east of Highway 160 and state Route 98 near Shonto in Navajo County. Using a gamma radiation detector, they inspected the crash site, concluding no radioactive material leaked (CBS News) .
This time we got lucky. But how much longer?
The danger:
⚡ Uranium being transported through Navajo territories
⚡ Semi-truck carrying radioactive material crashed
⚡ Only 2 years of uranium hauling—already accidents
⚡ Radiation threat to tribal communities
⚡ Environmental justice violated
Indigenous lands are being used as sacrifice zones for corporate profit.
Uranium mining. Nuclear waste. Radioactive transport. All happening on Navajo Nation. All threatening tribal health and safety.
The crash was prevented. This time. But what about next time?
Tribes deserve protection. Navajo Nation deserves safety. Indigenous lands must be respected.
Stop uranium mining. Protect tribal lands. Demand environmental justice
