“Fear free” “force free” “positive reinforcement only”

It’s the same old script just being repeated from different people who don’t actually know Anything about the very methods they are up in arms about.

If you are going to argue that one way is better than the other- at least understand HOW to apply the principles on both ends of the spectrum for a non-biased opinion.

the fact that they always lump e collar training into “punishment/fear” is a dead giveaway they actually do not understand the most basic fundamentals of e collar training. (The dog needs to know the expected behaviors first, which requires LOTS of positive reinforcement 🤣)

It’s not “one or the other”. A true behavior modification program includes ALL methods that have the dog’s best interests and success in mind.

And Most, if not all “balanced/e collar trainers” utilize positive reinforcement in their programs.

Yet we also understand that only rewarding dogs for the behavior we want has limitations. We can train a dog a million new things if we reinforce the behavior enough. But you know what rewards alone will never do? Extinguish an unwanted behavior.

At the end of the day— we all need to be asking the real question at hand:

Do we care more about our ideology or the dog’s success?

Because when ideologies get in the way of logic, it often has dire consequences.

It’s called moving the goalposts or semantic gymnastics. There’s a small, but very vocal group of trainers that i refer to and they ruin it for everyone, both in their camp and everywhere else.

When I started I promised I would use my platform to help dogs and their people. I stand by that and will call out anyone who threatens that. They know who they are. They troll my profiles, tell lies and try to post inflammatory things about anyone who doesn’t follow their dogma.

When they got called out for correcting a dog that is pulling, they said it’s not a correction, it’s management. They were called out for being purely positive, then they said they’re actually force free. I can’t make this up. They accuse other dog trainers of being child abusers, colonialists, racists and more. I cannot make this up. All of this and they cannot show the results of their dog training…. The best you’ll see is a sweet, cute, innocent dog running in a living room or an empty backyard. No real training - no real results.

Remember, there’s no true dog trainer that will try to force any other dog trainer how they have to train and what tools they’re allowed to use. We call out cruelty and show our success’s in our work. Others just post incessantly nagging memes and comments. Just watch this thread 🤬
