He dun did got inda box! Whew!!
As it had for the past few mornings, texts start coming in about our boys location. He had moved again. Seven tenths of a mile as the crow flies even close to insane traffic from a college and a freeway as well. Also nearby are railroad tracks which allow unencumbered travel if you're a dog.
None of this was good news.
This kid is smart! He found a corner well beyond the reach of people, where he could see, hear and smell anything coming towards him. That six foot block wall behind him is an easy jump had he been cornered and pressured.
Having many choices can suck... I could sneak up while he sleeps and snare him, have the fosters daughter attempt to lure and loop him, stand at the ready with a net or grab a second trap off the truck. When as many options are on the table, your brain grinds the gears everytime you're nearing a decision. If it doesn't work one part of my mind will always tell me I should've done the other thing.. No need for self inflicted black eyes!!
I made the call to have .y.n.a.e give it a try again. She had hand fed him once before, but couldn't seal the deal at that time. Her energy was good. Tail tucked, he got up and closed the distance but was nervous of me.. apparently he heard I'm the king of dirty tricks and cant be trusted until after your cell door slams.
Clarity always sets in then
At this point, I saw what I needed to see and shifted gears. In comes the trap. Because he trusted her more than me, I baited it, and got well out of sight. I had Rynae drop pieces of chicken in one after another after another etc, then I pulled her back. He had been watching her the whole time. By the time she got to her mom's car, he was already moving towards the trap.. slow and defeated he entered. Slam!!
That sound is the best when you know this difficult and scared dog is now safe.
Transferring him from trap to crate in the home went at his pace. Once he laid down he softened. At that moment you could see it on his face.. he knew he was ok.
