Don't Worry Be Waggy Dog Behavior Specialist and Dog Trainer, located in the San Fernando Valley. Helping pet dogs and their families get their wag back!

Not only have I been working with pet dogs and cats professionally for over 15 years, I have also studied companion animal behavior extensively, earning both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in the field. I continue to educate myself to this day, as I want to bring my clients the latest and greatest information and training techniques.

More throwbacks from when Dougal was learning scent work / a formal retrieve. It was fun breaking the behaviors down into bite-sized pieces that we could work on both independently and all together.

He just enjoyed being allowed to run up to something to grab it๐Ÿ˜†

Lovely at Week 4 of her Scent Work class! She's very confident working through the search area; I just need to up my observation skills and keep her nose in sight! ๐Ÿ˜œ

These clips are from 2021, when my previous dog, Dougal, was first learning scent work. ๐Ÿฝ

Part of the training involved an "active indication" which means the dog had to bring the odor to you in the form of a formal retrieve.

So he had to learn how to fetch! This is us practicing, first very close, and gradually increasing how far away the item is. The cones helped me move the item away in increments that weren't too far apart!

I usually post Mr. Bean stuff to my personal account, but wanted to put this here as a reminder to his friends that he's doing great! I keep meaning to give him his own IG account but... I'm lazy.

We tested out a new sniffspot this weekend and had a ball ๐Ÿคช Gotta get out with your dogs when you can!

Is your dog ever too old to try something new?? Lovely had a great time sniffing out food in her first Scent Work class at J9's K9s Dog Training. We even saw a familiar face there Melissa Goodman | Dog Trainer ๐Ÿ˜œ

Looking forward to seeing how much we learn over the next few weeks!

I'm lazy-er, efficient. I like to teach one behavior that addresses multiple things, instead of teaching a bajillion separate cues.

Teaching McNulty to go lay on his special blanket will make it easier for his owners to send him to places like his kennel, his play pen, and one day, have him chill out while they are all out at a restaurant.

Also, the little pitter-patter of his feet is too cute! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜
