Meet Mayor!

Mayor is an approximately 5-month-old Chihuahua/Schnauzer mix with a sweet soul and a gentle, loving nature. Born on October 13, he’s been raised in a dedicated foster home since birth and is ready to find the forever family he’s been waiting for.

Mayor is a happy, playful boy with a softer, more easygoing personality. He enjoys playing with other dogs, exploring his surroundings, and then settling in close for cuddles. He’s affectionate, loyal, and forms strong bonds—once he loves you, he’s all in. His mama was rescued from the shelter just one day before giving birth, giving Mayor the chance to grow up safe and cared for. His sisters and mom have all found homes, and now he’s patiently waiting, hoping it’s finally his turn.

Mayor is expected to stay small, making him a great fit for many homes. He is crate trained, doing well with potty training, and is up to date on vaccines. His neuter will be handled when age-appropriate.

Mayor would do beautifully in a home that will continue to build his confidence and give him the love he’s ready to return tenfold. Whether he joins a home with another dog or becomes someone’s devoted sidekick, he’s ready. He’s been waiting patiently now he just needs someone to finally choose him.

As many of you saw in our last post, we’ve welcomed more than 40 dogs into our care over the past few weeks. While we’re incredibly grateful to have been able to save them, they’ve definitely put a dent in our supplies!

Right now, our biggest need is Kuranda beds. They’re a bit pricey, but they help keep our dogs comfortable and safe. We’ve tried using blankets and soft beds (which works for 95% of our dogs), but some of our pups (like Cherry and Winnie, pictured here) love pulling them through the kennel bars and shredding them. Not only does this create a mess, but it can also be dangerous if they ingest the fabric. Kuranda beds are durable, easy to clean, and the safest option for many of our kennel dogs.

We’re also in need of enrichment items like bully sticks and yak chews to help keep our dogs busy, engaged, and happy while they wait for their forever homes.

Caution - the last three images in this post show screen shots of conversations relating to shelter euthanasia.

Right now, one of our closest shelter partners in Bakersfield is facing a crisis. Rising owner surrenders, overcrowded kennels, and skyrocketing transportation costs are putting more dogs at risk every single day 😞

This month alone, Pups Without Borders has welcomed 47 dogs into our program, including 30 from Bakersfield. We simply couldn’t say no to dogs who needed a chance. The first seven videos in this post feature some of the dogs we’ve rescued recently from Bakersfield.

But we can’t do this without your help. Every rescued dog needs food, medical care, vaccines, supplies, transportation, and a safe place to stay while they wait for loving homes. The average cost of care is about $1,500 per dog, and of course this can vary.

And that is why our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of June - so we can continue saying “yes” to dogs in need. Whether you give $10, $25, $50, or more, every donation truly saves lives! 💜

The world we are living in right now is not always kind. But when this community comes together, it TRULY can make a difference for dogs who need us the most.

🚨 URGENT RUNNING OUT OF TIME 🚨
Meet Harmony (2 years old) & Hope (11 months) — two of the sweetest pittie girls you will EVER encounter. 🐾
These babies were found together, likely dumped by the family that was supposed to love them. After everything they’ve been through, they are STILL the most gentle, docile, loving girls. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I met sweeter dogs than these two.
They had an adoption lined up — and it fell through. 💔 They are STILL waiting.

Hope and Harmony have shown nothing but grace, sweetness, and trust in humans, even after being let down. They deserve so much better. They deserve a FOREVER family who will never leave.
