We teamed up w/ the mighty Nick Schmidt (guitarist of The Wrecks) on 9-28 to relocate 42 more that were facing euthanasia in overcrowded California shelters! With the invaluable help of Jennifer Honig (who provided many of these photos) we got the dogs their potty walks and loaded into the Chevy Express. After leaving Sacramento, Schmizz and I had drop offs in W**d, Yreka, Medford, Roseburg, Eugene, Salem, Woodburn, Portland, and Castle Rock, WA, delivering dogs to SNIP of Siskiyou County, South Coast Humane Society - the real one, Oldies But Goodies Senior Rescue, Many Miles 2 Home Dog Rescue, Cristy's Pet Care, BAMM Rescue, Pawsitively Saved Rescue, Stumptown Strays, Jurassic Bark Rescue, Saddle Mountain Rescue, Fur Love Haven, , Herding Dog Rescue of Central Oregon, and Rescue Every Dog. We were loading dogs at 9:00 a.m. in Sacramento and dropping off the last one by 1:45 a.m.

As always, Rebecca Martello at PawsNetwork handled all of the planning and logistics so we could focus on the long drive. 🙏 🚐🐾🤘

12 more escaped euthanasia in overcrowded California shelters on 9-8-2026! As always, Rebecca Martello from PAWSNetwork handled all of the planning while I did the driving. I picked up the Chevy Express at 6:30 a.m. and drove to Modesto to load all 12. I had stops in Medford, Eugene, Salem, and Portland to deliver dogs for Oldies But Goodies Senior Rescue, Many Miles 2 Home Dog Rescue, Jack Russell Rescue OWII, Cristy's Pet Care, Rescue Every Dog, and Woof Project Rescue. And Rossko with JRT Rescue got to stay overnight with me in the hotel. He's such a smart, sweet, well mannered lil guy! !

The single mark on my wrist doesn't look like much, and that's because my ArmOR Hand Glove prevented any significant damage. Had I not worn these very well-made bite gloves (designed by veterinarian Laura Catena DVM) you would instead be looking at three distinct sets of deep puncture wounds in my forearm (and I would be looking at a very hefty hospital bill). The worst case scenario, the Roadies & Rescues transport would have been canceled, putting 19 dogs and 1 cat at risk of being returned to the overcrowded shelters they were escaping just before euthanasia due to overcrowding.

Yes, I know these gloves are not cheap, but if you regularly transport rescue animals, either as a volunteer or a commercial transporter, they are an easily justifiable investment. Please don't take unnecessary chances, there's little room for error, and the animals are depending on us. 🙏🤝🦾🛡️

The back story: a very pregnant momma dog, was absolutely NOT going to let anyone handle her on our 7-24 Sacramento to Portland transport. She got snappy, I put on the gloves, and after a few painful bites, I decided she was going to remain in the original crate the relay driver brought her in. 😅😓

19 dogs, 1 cat, 18 hours! On 7-24 we started driving at 6:15a.m. and finished at 12:15 a.m. on 7-25! As always, Rebecca Martello at Pawsnetwork handled the logistics while we did the driving. And thanks to the following organizations 20 more wonderful animals avoided euthanasia in overcrowded California shelters: Oldies But Goodies Senior Rescue, South Coast Humane Society - the real one, BAMM Rescue, Jack Russell Rescue OWII, Stumptown Strays, Second Chance Kitty, Rescue Every Dog, Broken Promises Rescue , and Many Miles 2 Home Dog Rescue. One of the BAMM dogs, Slate, got to spend the night in the hotel with us and he was so well behaved. Such a sweet, chill doggo. 😊

Also, Match Made in Heaven Animal Rescue had 1 sweet lil guy (Otter) needing a ride from Corvallis back to Sacramento and we were happy to oblige. We got to stop in Eugene and have lunch with an old roadie friend, , who is currently driving a crew bus on the Bryan tour. Mat and I forgot to take a proper selfie but I did get to show off the setup of our Chevy Express cutaway van. 😊

Sac to Seattle w/ 28 dogs and 1 cat! On 7-6 we started driving at 6:15a.m. and finished at 3:00 a.m. on 7-7! Thanks to Rebecca Martello at Pawsnetwork for handling the logistics while we did the driving.
