Most people associate allergies in dogs with itchy skin but the eyes can actually be one of the first places symptoms show up. Redness, tearing and irritation around the eyes are worth paying attention to, especially if they keep coming back. If your dog's eyes have been bothering them, schedule a consultation so we can take a closer look.

Not all fleas are easy to spot but they almost always leave clues behind. Those tiny black specks on your pet's skin or bedding are actually flea f***s and finding them means fleas are present even if you cannot see them. If you suspect your pet has fleas, contact us as soon as possible so we can recommend the right treatment and prevention plan.

🐾👑 Meet Simba! 👑🐾

Simba stopped by for a wonderful visit, and he completely stole our hearts! ❤️
This handsome orange boy was all about the attention, the cuddles, and most importantly, the Churus. 😻

One of Simba’s special features is that he has extra toes, called polydactyly. 🐾 Polydactyl cats are born with more toes than usual, giving them those adorable oversized “mitten paws.” It’s a harmless genetic trait that makes them extra unique and, if you ask us, extra cute!

Simba was a perfect gentleman during his visit, showing off his sweet personality and those incredible paws. We loved spending time with him and watching him enjoy every last lick of his favorite Churu treats. 😋

Thank you for visiting us, Simba! We can’t wait to see your adorable little blep and those special paws again soon. 🧡🐾✨

🐾✨ Meet Kasey! ✨🐾

When your pet comes in for a surgical procedure, there’s an entire team working behind the scenes to keep them safe, and Kasey is one of the biggest reasons why.

As our Lead Surgery Technician, Kasey is the amazingness behind every surgery day! From carefully monitoring anesthesia to keeping a constant eye on your pet’s vital signs, she’s right there from start to finish, ensuring your furry family member is safe, comfortable, and receiving the best possible care while the doctor performs their procedure.

Kasey also works closely with our veterinarians during dental procedures, helping provide the thorough dental care that keeps tails wagging and smiles healthy. 🦷🐶🐱

Because veterinary medicine is always evolving, we recently sent Kasey to the NAVC SkillShop Veterinary Dentistry Wet Lab, where she spent time sharpening her dental skills and learning the latest techniques from industry experts.

We believe continuing education helps us provide the highest level of care for your pets. Education is one of our Core Values! and Kasey is always eager to learn more.

We’re so proud to have someone as dedicated, compassionate, and knowledgeable as Kasey on our team. The next time your pet has a surgical or dental procedure with us, know that Kasey is there every step of the way, treating them like one of her own. ❤️

Drop a 🐾 in the comments to help us celebrate Kasey and all she does for our patients! 🎉🐶🐱

During shedding season, a lot can hide under loose fur. Regular brushing helps clear out the coat and gives you a chance to notice skin changes before they turn into something more uncomfortable.

Food and skin health are more connected in dogs than most people realize.
When a dog's skin just won't settle down and there's more than a seasonal pattern to it, diet is often the first place we look.
Ruling out a food allergy before exploring environmental triggers can make a real difference in finding the right answer. If your dog's skin has been an ongoing concern, schedule a consultation with us. 🐾🌿

Good Bye and Good Luck to Rachel!!!

After 10 incredible years with Markham Woods Animal Hospital, we are saying goodbye to our amazing Office Manager, Rachel.❤️

Rachel has been such an important part of our hospital family, helping guide our team through so many changes, supporting our clients and patients with compassion, and always stepping in wherever she was needed. From helping transition our hospital to paperless records and new software systems, to assisting clients at the front desk and caring for patients behind the scenes, Rachel has truly done it all.

Most importantly, Rachel’s kindness, dedication, and love for both animals and people have left a lasting impact on all of us. She will be greatly missed by our team and so many of our wonderful clients.

Please join us in wishing Rachel all the best in her next adventure! We are so grateful for everything she has done for our hospital over the years. 💙🐾
