🔸️ Longview Office – 1604 E. Highway 31, is open Monday through Friday.
🔸️ The Palestine office, 1917 Crockett Rd, is open Tuesday and Thursday.
🔸️ The Sulphur Springs office, 468 Shannon Rd W, is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
🔸The Marshall location is at The Pet Place.(Humane Society of Harrison County), 1901 Jefferson Ave, and is open Thursday and Friday.

Vaccinations are given 10am-2pm and surgery is by appointment. For more information or to schedule a spay/neuter, please call 903-439-2953 or 903-753-7387 ☎️. APL has 7 licensed veterinarians on staff. Our mobile units are modern stainless steel surgery suites. Surgery fees include a pain injection, an antibiotic injection and all dogs go home wearing an e-collar. Remember, dogs should come on leashes (NOT THE RETRACTABLE KIND) and cats must come in carriers.

🐾 REMEMBER NUGGET & LICORICE? THEY’RE READY! 🐾

Our two little Chihuahua buddies are officially ready for adoption! ❤️

Nugget — 7 years old • 7 lbs
Licorice — 7 years old • 13 lbs

These two came to us together, but here’s what we’ve learned: they do perfectly fine apart and can absolutely be adopted separately. In fact, when separated, they settle down a little and let their individual personalities shine.

Both are super sweet, playful and full of energy. They LOVE being outside, enjoy other dogs, love people, and are always ready for some attention.

And yes… together they have a LOT to say. 😂 They can be pretty vocal, especially when they decide you aren't paying enough attention to them. Apart? Much less commentary.

Licorice is heartworm positive, but he has already received his heartworm treatment and is on his way to putting that behind him. ❤️

Two 7-year-old Chihuahuas who clearly missed the memo about slowing down with age. 😂 Now they’re just waiting to see whose family finds them first!

Tiny babies. Big teamwork. 🍼❤️

When our Kennel Manager got the call about a litter of newborn puppies that had been found, we didn't hesitate to help.

This particular East Texas shelter is overflowing and, like so many others, simply doesn't have bottle feeders available. We were happy to step in so they could keep precious kennel space open and continue saving lives.

Right now, our Kennel Manager is caring for one of these little ones alongside Thiago (with another volunteer on the weekend). Two of the puppies are with one of our amazing volunteers, who happens to be a travel nurse. She does incredible work both on and off the clock and somehow still finds time to save bottle babies. She even takes them along on her assignments so they never miss a feeding.

We'll be sharing a sweet video of one of her adorable patients meeting the puppies—you won't want to miss it!

We're not exactly sure what breed these little ones are. Mom appears to be a Chihuahua, but Dad is anyone's guess—possibly a toy or miniature breed, though that's just our best guess for now.

This is what rescue is all about. We work with high-intake shelters across East Texas to help with the cases they simply don't have the resources for, giving more animals a chance at life.

Our washer is still out of commission, and we're doing laundry however we can while we work toward replacing it. Every donation gets us one step closer.

But while we're waiting...

Crim is waiting, too.

This sweet old boy spent far too long surviving outside a local business and loyal supporter, where the owners looked out for him until Backwoods Barkers stepped in, safely trapped him, and brought him to us. That's when we gave him the name Crim.

Now he's safe, healthy, and ready for the one thing we can't give him...

A family.

This is the reality of rescue without a working washer.
Potty pads hanging on fences. Bags of laundry going home with volunteers. Countless hours spent washing, bleaching, and drying bedding just so every dog has something clean.
It isn't exciting... but it's necessary.

We're officially filing a complaint against our dogs.

Charges include: 🐾 Excessive blanket destruction. 🐾 Unauthorized leg lifting. 🐾 Multiple counts of "I p**p where I please." 🐾 Breaking and entering... into everyone else's kennel to p*e instead of their own. 🐾 Rolling in things they absolutely should not roll in. 🐾 And creating approximately 47 loads of laundry a day. (Okay... maybe not 47... but it sure feels like it. 😅)

Our biggest repeat offenders? Puppies. Senior dogs. Medical dogs. Really... all of them.
Now... between us... 🤫
The one who keeps breaking into everyone else's kennel just to p*e?
It's Charlie.
🤫 Shhh... don't tell Charlie we told you. We don't want him hiring a lawyer or demanding his side of the story. 😂

The only one paying the price?

Our washer. 😂

Behind every cute adoption photo is an endless pile of blankets, towels, beds, crate pads, and mop heads waiting to be washed. Our washer works just as hard as our volunteers do, and it's finally time for an upgrade.

A washer may not be glamorous, but it's one of the most important tools we could have. It means cleaner kennels, healthier dogs, and less time doing laundry so we can spend more time saving lives.

If you'd like to help put our overworked washer into retirement, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every dollar gets us one step closer.

Because let's be honest... the dogs have made it very clear they're not going to stop p*eing on everything anytime soon. 😂🐾

The truth is... that's just not Thiago.
This little fragile powerhouse is a nonstop ball of "i can do it!" He walks right through baby gates, thinks every obstacle is just a suggestion, and has absolutely no idea how tiny he is. We finally got a few pictures by putting him in a box... and even then I had to keep my hand on it because he was determined to launch himself right back out!
So what you see is the real Thiago. Raw, unedited, and full of personality. We figured you'd rather meet the real little mighty man than a perfectly edited version of him. ❤️

So with that ALL said 🤣

At just 1.4 pounds, this tiny Chihuahua has already overcome more than most dogs ever should.

Thiago was lovingly surrendered to Texas Star Rescue by an incredibly selfless owner who recognized he needed specialized medical care and around-the-clock attention. Making that decision couldn't have been easy, but it was an act of love, and we're honored to continue his journey.

Thiago has hydrocephalus and is currently considered a failure-to-thrive puppy. Because of his condition, he requires frequent feedings, close monitoring, and lots of hands-on care. To make sure he's never without the support he needs, two of our dedicated volunteers are sharing foster duties so he receives care around the clock.

He's tiny. He's fragile. But he's also a fighter.

We know the road ahead may have its challenges, but Thiago is surrounded by people who are committed to giving him every chance to thrive.

Please help us welcome this precious little boy to the Texas Star Rescue family by sending him lots of love and encouragement. We can't wait to share his milestones with all of you as he grows stronger, one tiny victory at a time. 🐾❤️
