Every month I receive requests train a family pet as a service dog.

Mainly these dog owners are looking to avoid airline travel expenses or feel “entitled” to take their dog everywhere.

Signs of a fake service dog include:

•pulling on the leash

•attempting to engage people other than their “disabled human”

• poor sit and down stays

• Breeds and mix breeds other than Goldens, Labradors or German Shepherds.

These three breeds, and more specifically their bloodlines, have been intentionally bred over many generations (10+) to be trained, stable and focused.

Toy and small breeds, high maintenance dogs requiring excessive coat care or reactive dogs along with “bottom of the barrel” genetics are not compatible with service dog duties.

If I have offended a few people: Good…..it’s probably an indicator that self-reflection is needed.

This video contains important information and it’s too good not to share.

If you have a documented disability, Helping Paws located in Minnesota is an excellent and legitimate service dog program.

🎉🎂 PUPPY CUP PARTY! 🎂🎉

Yesterday was a VERY special day at Augusta because Finn celebrated his birthday with all his daycare friends! 🥳🐾 And what’s a birthday celebration without a little something sweet? 🍦💙

Finn got to enjoy his very own pup cup, and we’re pretty sure he thinks birthdays should happen a LOT more often! 😋🐶

Help us wish Finn a BIG, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎈🎁 We’re so glad you celebrated with us, Finn! 💜

UPDATE: Adoption Pending😊
Keep your fingers crossed…

It looks like C***r has a forever home. ❤️🐾❤️
****************************
This lovely lass is available for adoption.

Meet “C***r”. (Our Burnsville Animal Control officers have named her C***r. I personally think she looks more like an “Evelyn” or a “Duchess” 🙂)

C***r is a female Collie, who was found wandering the streets by a Burnsville police officer.

She weighs about 50 to 55 pounds and we approximate her age around two years.

She has not been claimed by her owner😢 and her ownership has now reverted to Dave and I.

We are committed to finding her a wonderful, deserving home.

C***r is a wonderful dog. Well housebroken, walks nicely on leash, is gentle and friendly, has been tested safe around cats and does not demonstrate reactivity around other dogs.

She is safe around food bowls and bones. She has a moderate energy level and has lower prey drive.

In many ways, she is the ideal dog.

Over the years, there have been many, many dogs who have been dumped by their owners and recovered by Burnsville Animal Control.

Dave and I cannot comprehend how these exceptionally temperamented dogs can be abandoned by their owners.

C***r is one of these dogs.

If you’re looking to add a canine companion to your family, please reach out to us.

You can either private message me, Newman, Bornhofen or Animal Control and ask for Brielle or Alex. (952) 894-3647.

Our teams at Long Lake and Edina can also get you in contact with Burnsville Animal Control.

Because C***r is such an exceptional dog, David and I are going to be very picky in choosing the right family for her. She is a lovely dog and deserves a great home.🐾❤️🐾❤️

🐾💕 Meet Franklin, our handsome little heart-stealer! 💕🐾

Those wrinkles, that pout, and that face! 😍 Franklin is a student in our Play and Train program, where he gets to enjoy the fun of daycare while spending time with our trainers working on his skills. 🎓🐶

It's the best of both worlds: playtime with friends, learning new things, and building good habits along the way! Franklin, we think you're doing a paw-some job! 🐾💙

🐾 HEY, DID YOU KNOW?! 🎉

This month, 2026 marks a BIG milestone for Augusta… we’re celebrating 30 YEARS! 🥳🐶

Since 1996, Augusta has been a place for dogs to learn, play, make friends, and feel right at home. From daycare and boarding to grooming and training, we’ve been lucky enough to be part of so many dogs’ lives over the years. 💙💜❤️

And the best part? We’re still doing what we love — caring for your four-legged family members!

A huge THANK YOU to all the amazing dogs, pet parents, and team members who have been part of our journey. Here's to 30 years of wagging tails, muddy paws, new friendships, and memories we wouldn’t trade for anything! 🐾

Augusta turns 30 in 2026, and we’re just getting started! 🎂🐕
