Itโs been about three months since I first reached out to our suppliers to plan this yearโs fall/winter collection. from finding new colors for existing styles to sampling a brand new design, Iโve been sharing bits of the process in stories from time to time.
This season has had more twists than usual, so I wanted to put together a proper update. a look at where everything stands, and a peek behind the scenes at what goes into making each piece.
When I started planning this yearโs new launch, the timeline was simple: design and sampling in july and august, production and shipping in september, launch in october. I even built a buffer into every step, a lesson from past seasons ๐คง
But production rarely goes exactly to plan. itโs now mid-october, and a few unexpected issues have pushed the launch back. hereโs what happened.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฎ This year, we added two new colors to our classic sweater. During quality check, we found every size had come out bigger than the size chart. Instead of reworking everything, we found a better way: we reworked the smaller sizes, which took another two weeks, and turned the oversized large into a brand new XL for dogs around 30 to 40 lbs. itโs a size many of you have been asking for.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฝ๐. After a few rounds of sampling, production went smoothly. the caps left via UPS at the end of September and should have arrived in five days just in time for the launch.
Itโs been fourteen days so far and I still donโt have them.
Iโve contacted ups many times, and they say thereโs a backlog. All we can do is wait.
At least the caps came out exactly how we wanted.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ก๐ฒ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ. Weโre also releasing a new sweater style this year in two colors. Just as the first color was about to ship, the factory found the collar had been made in the same height for every size. It now has to be redone {again}, and because the collar is hand-crocheted, that takes time.
The second color is still waiting on final approval, and its sample is stuck in the same ups package as the caps ๐ฆโฑ๏ธ
At first I was anxious and frustrated. then I just felt powerless. When
