Eastern Pilbara spiny tailed skink (Egernia epsisolus) is a small, social and viviparous lizard native to the arid rocky outcrops and spinifex grasslands of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

General Characteristics

•Appearance: Features a pale yellow brown to vibrant orange red body with dark transverse bars and heavily keeled spiny scales on its body and tail.

Size & Weight: Grows to about 14 to 25 cm in total length and weighs roughly 100 to 150 g.

Behavior: Highly social, living in stable family groups or pairs. They use their spiny tails to wedge themselves tightly into rock crevices as a defense mechanism against predators.

Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on insects and plant matter.

Crocodile monitor (Varanus salvadorii) also known as Salvadori’s monitor or the Papuan monitor, is a large arboreal species of monitor lizard endemic to the island of New Guinea.

Physical Characteristics & Size

Length: They are among the longest lizards in the world, often reaching lengths of 7 to 9 feet (2.1 to 2.7 meters) with verified specimens up to 100 inches (255 cm) or more.

Tail: Their exceptionally long prehensile whip like tail can make up roughly two thirds of their total body length, providing balance for life in the trees.

Weight: Adults typically weigh up to 44 lbs (20 kg) making them slender and less massive compared to heavy bodied monitors like the Komodo dragon, despite rivaling or exceeding them in total length.

Appearance: They feature a dark green or black body marked with distinct bands of yellowish spots or stripes along with a characteristic blunt snout and sharp backward curving serrated teeth.
