Puppy challenges! 😆 ❤️

Nervous dogs need their own time, we provide the space and patience. I never really approach a nervous dog. On day one of picking up Yumi she wanted nothing to do with me (afraid of men) on day 4 she finally started walking out to me, I’m so happy she’s warming herself up to me. In this moment I’m kind of using the other dogs to help earn Yumi’s trust a little bit. Her being unsure tells me to give space the challenge is to give her a reason (without treats) to want to come to me. No pressure easy going voice nothing forced if she comes I have love to give if not I’m not offended I’ll try again but this is the best way to bond with trust first. The more she comes to me on her terms the more she’ll be willing in the future to come to me on my terms. She’s learning that I’m not so scary and I have affection for her.

Dog park tip! When you get there don’t walk straight from the car to the park take your time walk in the area first whether it’s up and down the street once or around the block. The reason is to slow down their excitement. The dog park shouldn’t be where dogs come in and go wild. They will go wild at times of course but the intention of the dog park is to come enjoy the company of other dogs and have the freedom to wander and play if they choose. If we go from the car straight into the park sometimes they can be too excited or the pattern starts of being super excited once pulling up to the park which can rile up any dogs in the dog park. Some people bring their dogs in just to run wild and be free and that’s fine too but when I bring dogs into the dog park I bring them in calmly and in control.
