You might be teaching your dog to jump on the people they love… 😬

When excitement immediately earns access, your dog learns that rushing in is the way to say hello.

Structure doesn’t take away the emotion—it teaches your dog how to move through it.
The dog in this video is clearly happy to see me, but we’ve taught him a protocol that goes through his parents in order to get what he wants.

The people your dog already loves are some of the best opportunities to practice. They’re rewarding, which makes it easier to teach that listening, trusting your direction, and showing self-control are what open the door to what they want.

When your dog trusts you to help them navigate the world, that world can get a whole lot bigger. ❤️

Your dog shouldn’t need to hear you to listen..👀

We spend so much time trying to get dogs to understand what our words mean that sometimes we forget how much we’re communicating without them.

Our hands. Our body language. Our movement. Our energy. Even the patterns we repeat every single day.
And when we talk too much, repeat ourselves constantly or use words without meaning, dogs can learn that a lot of what we say is just noise.
That’s why I love practicing communication like this.
No repeated commands. No constant talking. Just two dogs paying attention to a conversation that doesn’t require any words.
And somehow Penelope still found a way to have the last word. 😂🤫

Your puppy probably thinks the crate means you’re leaving… 🥲

CRATE training and SEPARATION training are both DIFFERENT exercises even if you may use the crate to practice safe separation. it’s important to offset your Puppies mentality of what the crate means by making sure you are also using this tool for communication.

Most humans think of the crate simply as a place, but what I’m doing with this exercise is using it as a conversation with my puppy. Remember you are the biggest treat of all to your dog regardless of any food.

Use the crate to actually further your bond in relationship with your dog and you might just find that your dog enjoys using it as a sanctuary much easier to self soothe when the time comes!

Looking up cute pictures of a puppy is not researching the breed 💁‍♀️🐶

This is a public service announcement for those of you out there interested in a working breed dog to please research the breed heavily!

Getting a high drive dog often means getting a second job..literally. The fulfillment needs of high drive dog breeds are drastically different from many people’s expectations when looking to adopt a family dog. Now this is not to say they are not amazing dogs, because over my years of training I’ve fallen in love with working breeds of all kinds. However it is very common that a working breeds issues do not fall under the need of more commands rather than the need of more fulfillment!

To give you some food for thought both of my dogs in this video are nine years old and I still do about two play session today, a hand feeding session, and a walk. But I knew exactly what I signed up for and love the fact that my dogs match my crazy energy. All this to say be careful what dog you wish for because you might just find them!

When 7 days feels like 7 years 🥹

This video shows 12 Week Old cocker spaniel puppy Poppy reuniting with her mom after seven days of training. Poppy is undergoing a five week board and train in total however that will not be without heavily involving Mom.

My program is unique for several reasons one of which being weekly checkpoint lessons as well as a break midway through the program for the puppy to return home and stay with their family for real life practice in the home.

Train your puppy like a pro with this one tip ☝️

The key to teaching your puppy any command is to first make sure they know how to follow your lead. And the best way to do that is to engage a puppy on how they learned best naturally, and that’s by NOSE first!

It’s far too common that a humans anthropomorphize our dogs when training them which is just a fancy way of saying we treat them like humans. One of the most common ways we do this is by over verbalizing and trying to talk our dogs into a command. I’m here to let you in on a little secret… Dogs don’t speak English or any other human language for that matter!
They can learn what our vocabulary means but if you want them to understand you then you have to understand how to teach them. No matter the age, dogs learn best by first engaging their nose, than their eyes, and lastly the ears.

I was just trying to keep my dogs cool…😂💦

With this heat wave, we thought a splash pad would be the perfect way for Zeke and Penni to cool off.

And it was.

For about 30 seconds. Definitely was user error on my part🥴

Luckily, Plan B worked a lot better.

One of my favorite ways to give the dogs a cool treat on hot days is making homemade PUPSCILES. They’re easy, the dogs love them, and we can make them using ingredients we already feel good about feeding them.

For these, we used the Herring & Mackerel Rustic Stew Topper from Open Farm Pet along with their Grass-Fed Beef Bone Broth and Turkey recipe Be Good Bites and frozen everything together.

Safe to say Zeke and Penni approved of Plan B.

What’s your dog’s favorite way to cool off when it’s hot?

Conversations with a cattle dog 🐶

i’m not ashamed to admit that I feed my dogs addiction daily… What is he addicted to you ask.. PLAY!

If you ask me one tip for the best bond possible with your dog then I would say play with them every day! Obedience is much easier with a dog who actually sees a reason to listen to you 🤯🐾
