There’s a lot of misinformation online about removing ticks safely. Some common “home remedies” can actually increase the risk of disease transmission.

🚫 Myth: Burn the tick with a match
🚫 Myth: Cover the tick in petroleum jelly
🚫 Myth: Twist the tick out with your fingers

✔️ Instead, use fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull steadily upward.

After removal:
✔️ Clean the area
✔️ Wash your hands
✔️ Monitor for redness, swelling, or illness symptoms

After your pet’s surgery, knowing what’s normal vs. concerning is essential for a smooth recovery.

While some mild swelling, sleepiness, and reduced appetite can be expected, certain symptoms should never be ignored.

Red flags to watch for after surgery:
🚩 Excessive swelling, redness, or discharge at the incision site
🚩 Bleeding or a foul odor from the incision
🚩 Lethargy that worsens or doesn’t improve after 24–48 hours
🚩 Refusal to eat or drink for more than 24 hours
🚩 Vomiting or diarrhea
🚩 Difficulty breathing or persistent coughing
🚩 Signs of pain (whining, pacing, restlessness, sensitivity to touch)
🚩 Opening of the incision or missing sutures

Early intervention can prevent complications and help your pet heal faster.
