Feral Fixers

Feral Fixers Feral Fixers is an organization dedicated to practicing & promoting Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

Our Goals:

(a) To educate local governments and the public on the benefits of a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program in DuPage County. (b) To humanely control the population of feral cats in DuPage County, Illinois, primarily through a Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program. (c) To provide educational resources and other assistance to feral cat colony caretakers and local veterinarians. (d) To pro

vide coaching on TNR methods to feral cat colony caretakers and others interested in furthering the objectives of TNR. (e) To work in cooperation with other animal welfare organizations interested in furthering the objectives of TNR in DuPage County, Illinois. (f) To promote the importance of spaying and neutering for all cats, feral or non-feral. Feral Fixers offers its TNR services to all colony caretakers, without charge. While we ask for donations from colony caretakers, we recognize that for some of them, any additional cost is just too much. Therefore we rely on donations from other individuals to make up the difference and allow us to continue our work. These donations allow us to spay/neuter additional cats, keep a 'bank' of traps and trap dividers we loan out for free, hold workshops and provide other educational benefits.

Feral Fixers Needs More Newspaper!

We are trying to trap as many cats as we have slots for – time to ask for newspapers again!

We have a donation bin at the front of our building – please place in paper grocery bags if you can, it can get really windy and we don’t want to spread them around the neighborhood!

And please try to sift out the sale papers if possible, before donating, they just are not absorbent and we end up taking bags home to put in our own recycling.

Another Reason for Spay/Neuter - TNR
Not that you really need another reason but finding out that rodenticides can impact newborn kittens in this way is a real eye opener. This study of found kittens and their toxicology reports – we often intake kittens that ultimately do not do well and have no idea why they fail. So glad this study was done. Low levels of poison do not kill immediately and not always the animal that eats the poison directly but to find that it affects kittens born later and weeks into their new lives…very disturbing. Not all the kittens in the study died but required huge amounts of supportive care. The study was funded by the Orphan Kitten

Through a research collaboration with the University of California, Davis, kittens presenting with neurological symptoms were diagnosed with bromethalin, or rodent poison, toxicity. Evidence suggests exposure occurred by ingesting their affected mother’s milk, a transmission route that has never b...

Feral Fixers Named 2026 Animal Welfare Partner of the Year! On May 15th, DuPage Animal Friends named Feral Fixers their 2026 Animal Partner of the Year! What a difference compared to when TNR first began, and it was a struggle for acceptance that TNR was one of the best tools to reducing overpopulation and euthanasia! We are so grateful that we can now work together for the benefit of the cats!

Tammy put together a short video for the award which you can view here, and you can view a photo album of the event here. https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/178d93ebbaa049799a9ad9734446ac51

Vice President Mary Schamber and volunteer Francie Schamber were kind enough to represent Feral Fixers at the Furever Friends Gala, receiving our award from Laura Flamion, DCAS operations manager and Brian Krajewski, director DuPage Animal Friends.

Kitten “Season” - After all these years, there is no real “Kitten Season”, there are surges about 3 times a year. Last week the kittens were coming in batches of 11! Very productive moms out there!

This resulted in an additional plea on Facebook for kitten food – that plea resulted in 17 cases of Fancy Feast canned kitten food, 5 24 packs of Fancy Feast kitten canned, 16 bags of Iams kitten dry, 3 cases of adult pate, 1 case of Buffalo Wilderness kitten and a very cool scratcher!

A kitten in our care receives 2 cans of Fancy Feast and whatever dry they will chomp on throughout the day. We are so grateful for the food donations and the monetary donations that keep these kittens well fed and healthy. Amazing that this is just the start of the year, please keep those donations coming!

We are trying to trap as many cats as we have slots for – time to ask for newspapers again!

We have a donation bin at the front of our building – please place in paper grocery bags if you can, it can get really windy and we don’t want to spread them around the neighborhood!

Hey everybody I’m Pepe! For most of my life (about 3 months), I’ve been the “little brother” because I was the smallest of the group. Now I’m catching up and I’m a sweet black kitten with a lot of personality. I’d rather be on the run chasing my siblings or running to greet my foster mom but I’m getting better at sitting for more than a second on my foster mom’s lap. Mostly, I’d rather sit beside her taking everything in and hoping to catch some pets when I decide I want them. You’ll know how much I love it by my purrs. I wrestle and run laps around the room with my sisters and brothers. Give us a tunnel and some new toys and watch the fun we have. I love all my siblings and it would be great if I could be adopted with at least one of them.

All cats & kittens are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, fixed, and tested FeLV/FIV negative. All kittens are living in foster homes in DuPage County and arrangements will be made to meet them after a brief application is reviewed. Adoption fee is a $110 per cat donation to Feral Fixers. Discounted adoption fee if two cats are adopted together, $175 for a pair. A contract will be required at the time of adoption.

If you are interested in meeting and adopting one of our cats, please fill out the ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE at:

How do you do? I’m Perkins and my tuxedo coloring makes me feel very formal! I’m the big guy of the group and very handsome. I like to think I have the best manners for a 3 month old kitten. I sit near or next to my foster mom like a proper gentleman but let me make the choice. I also love to run to the door and wait patiently (or maybe not) with my siblings for our foster mom. I am very social. I enjoy petting if I’m not too busy with other things like playing tag with my siblings or checking in on all of them to see if they need a hanging partner. I love cat toys, especially wands. As the handsome gentleman, I have a more mature vibe and like to hang with the older resident cat in my foster home. So, I could be with a young adult cat or teen kitten as a companion.

Hey everyone, I’m Petey! Since the beginning (3 long months ago), I’ve been the leader of the pack. I’m the orange tabby guy in charge. I’ve always gone first and been the teacher for my siblings. I’m full of mischief but I know you will let me get away with it because I will rev my purr motor as soon as I see you. I love a lap and will jump into your lap as soon as you sit down … but don’t take me for lazy! I just love to be babied and will let you hold me like a baby and rock me. I love attention and will seek it out. My bestie is Penny … that tiny girl with a big attitude. I can really rock and roll with her and we are always racing around and playing. I would love to be adopted with Penny. I have that sweet, curious look on my face all the time because I’m working on my next conquest.

Penny here - I am a tiny but powerful 3-month old, tabby girl with an adorable face. I might not have tortitude like my sister but I have big attitude and energy. Don’t be fooled by my size because I wrestle with all my siblings and have no fear. I’m also a “zoomie” girl and love to jump down from a lap and race around the room. I’m actually pretty adorable if I don’t say so myself. My bestie sibling is my brother Petey. He and I love to sit on our foster mom’s lap together. I like to be held and I can really purr up a storm. Two are better than one! So maybe adopt me and my brother Petey???
