I’m going to say this one more time about cancellations.

I feel like I post about this every other week, and I’m tired of repeating myself. I have always been transparent about my policies.

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours’ notice, there is a 50% cancellation fee.

If I send you an appointment reminder, that does not restart the 24-hour window. The reminder is simply a courtesy. It is not an invitation to cancel or reschedule at the last minute and be exempt from the fee.

I understand that true emergencies happen. Sickness, a death in the family, or an unexpected situation will always be handled case by case. I’m human and I understand life happens.

But forgetting your appointment, changing your plans, or realizing at the last minute that finances are tight is different. I can be understanding of your situation, but I cannot be expected to take the financial loss because of it.

I’ve had several last-minute cancellations this week alone. Those are appointment times I reserved for your dogs and income I was counting on. Most of the time, I cannot fill those spots with only a few hours’ notice.

This is my livelihood. I shouldn’t have to feel bad for enforcing a policy that has been made clear from the beginning.

Going forward, the cancellation policy will be enforced. Please plan accordingly when booking and keeping your appointments. 🐾

🐾 STARTING PUPPIES EARLY IS SO IMPORTANT! 🐾

Starting your puppy with grooming early is one of the best things you can do for them.

With me, puppies do not get an all-over haircut their first two visits. There’s a reason for that!

The first visit, they have NO idea what to expect. Some are scared and freeze, so they seem super good. Others are wiggly, wild and want absolutely nothing to do with it. 😂 They’re being introduced to clippers, dryers, water, brushing, combing, nail trims, having their feet and face handled, and a whole bunch of new sounds and sensations.

The second visit can go either way! Sometimes they remember everything and do much better. Other times they remember everything and decide, “Nope, I don’t like this!” 🤣

It takes time to build trust and condition a puppy to grooming.

There are things you can do at home to help:

🐾 Brush AND COMB them regularly. A brush alone isn't enough.
🐾 Play with and handle their feet and toes.
🐾 Use an electric toothbrush around their body, feet and face to introduce vibration and noise.
🐾 Let them be around you while you're blow drying your hair.
🐾 Let them hear normal household noises like the vacuum.

The more positive exposure they have to different sounds, vibrations and handling, the better!

When they finally get their first all-over haircut, the goal is NOT picture perfect. The goal is a positive experience and getting done what the puppy comfortably allows. Some puppies catch on quickly. Others need several visits before they're comfortable enough to let me do everything.

Puppies take MORE time and patience—not less. That's also why a puppy groom isn't necessarily cheaper than an adult groom. If anything, it can take even more time because I'm teaching them the grooming process while I'm doing it.

And PLEASE—if you're a new client booking with me, tell me that your dog is a puppy. I need to schedule accordingly and know what I'm working with ahead of time.

I'm very transparent about how I offer my services. I don't believe in forcing a puppy through everything just to produce a perfect haircut. I'd rather take the time now to build trust and create a dog that's comfortable with grooming for years to come. ❤️🐾

New Client Update 🐾

I’ve decided that for the remainder of the year, I’m going to be more selective about the new clients I take on.

My availability is very limited, and I’m honestly at a point where I could close my books completely. But things change—people move, schedules change, and spots sometimes open up—so I don’t want to completely shut the door.

New clients will be accepted case by case based on the dog, breed, services needed, scheduling needs, and whether I feel Paws and Claws is the right fit.

Calling or reaching out does not automatically mean I will have a spot available or be able to take you on.

My current clients, especially those who stay on a regular recurring schedule, will continue to be my priority.

I’m only one person, and I’d rather be selective and continue giving my clients the time and quality they deserve than take on more than I can realistically handle. 🐾❤️

Just because your dog is still short and doesn’t need a full haircut yet doesn’t mean you should cancel or push their appointment out. 🐾

Staying on a routine keeps the coat and skin healthy and helps maintain the haircut you want — especially if you’re not doing much maintenance at home.

A bath & trim is always an option. It includes the bath, blow dry, brush/comb-out, nails, ears, and trimming of the face, feet and sanitary areas while leaving the body length alone. It isn’t much less than a full groom because the bathing, drying and prep work is a big part of the service.

Pricing can also vary. More coat, tangles or extra work means more time and may mean a higher price.

If you’re already prebooked for recurring appointments and cancel because your dog “isn’t ready yet,” please keep in mind there may not be another opening before your next scheduled appointment. You may have to wait until then.

And with the holidays coming up, appointments will be even harder to move around. If you want your dog looking good for the holidays, please keep the appointments you already have scheduled! 🎄🐾 Side note- if you haven't scheduled for the holidays now is the time. NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER ARE BOOKING UP FAST

Pushing appointments out can mean more coat, more work and more money later.
